Found a Sony CFD-770 Today

Very decent shape, cosmetically speaking. Sound is very good, nice and loud. Tape players need work, they won't turn.

i had one of those. they sound pretty good. i ended up giving mine to my uncle. he uses it at his work now. they are a pretty nice sounding boombox.

I bought one of those brand new in 1991. It cost $506.35 I needed a boombox o small stereo that sounded great but didn't take up much room in my wife and my small apartment at the time, and this fit the bill. It was a tough decision, between the Sony CFD770 and the JVC PC-X1000. They were both top of the line units in there time. The Sony had more features for a little more money,so we bought it. I still have the manual and receipt.
It is a great sounding unit and loaded with features, mine got broke in a million pieces and totaled a few years ago though when it fell of a shelf in my shed, man I was pissed! Mad
Here is a scan of my original receipt. Like I said I have the manual too if you need any info, let me know. Big Grin

WOW, that's quite a price to pay for a portable stereo, back in '91!
Thanks Skippy, I already downloaded the manuel from a site that had it up for free.
This box it packed with features. All those buttons, some are redundant.

If you prefer bright highs and love the clear ambience of music, then I think you'll love this box. And it does get loud. I think that its one of Sony's better boxes in terms of bass. I wish I had a remote for mine. I'm thinking of selling or trading it. I'd probably prefer to trade it though. Bear in mind the tape and the CD won't play (don't know why). And whenever I turn it off, or switch to the tape function and back to the tuner the computer resets itself so I loose all of my presets and everything.

This is a dumb question, but do you have the AA batteries installed for the memory? Leaving

SKIPPY, it came with the 4 AA batteries installed which were beginning to leak so I pulled them out right away. I'll try installing fresh ones tonight, see what happens. Something I should look for?

No that's not a dumb question buddy. No I don't have the batteries in. I'll try that. I guess that I was thinking that just like my dt680 it wouldn't loose information when it was powered off even if there were no batteries. But I'll try it and see what happens.

I would just check for corrosion on the contacts, then install the new batteries. The station memory and clock should work for you after that. Nod Yes

milosancho - 2009-04-18 16:46

Tried installing fresh batteries after cleaning the contacts but no joy. The memory doesn't stick after swithing the machine off. The timer and clock don't work either. Common in these I gather?
Not a dumb question after all. Wink

The higher end Panasonic Cobra tops were going for that price back then as well.
