Todays Goodwill find.

skippy1969 - 2009-02-10 11:28

I got this Panasonic RX-DT401 today for $15.00. I was going to leave it there but is clean and all works. I've had a few Biamped eggs before but this is not Biamped but it really sounds good,it has XBS too,I'm sure that helps. Not too bad I guess.... Wink

Even the Grade "Small" Eggs from Panasonic were good sounding with the XBS circuits. Nice find! That'll really chap Fatdog's a@@ as he can never seem to find jack in TN. Laugh Out Loud

Fair price, good daily player Wink

redbenjoe - 2009-02-10 23:10

take it back to goodwill and see if they will exchange it for lightly used pair of shoes.

I think that´s a littlebit unfair. Wink
As allday player it´s a nice box.. äh, egg.

Yeah, sorry, I'd have left it in favour of the shoes.

baby.boomer - 2009-02-13 08:38

Let me offer an alternative view to all these naysayers: Ya did good, Skip, especially since these days fifteen bucks won't even buy you a decent bra or good used pair of shoes... or a new boombox that's half as nice. Biamped or not, these black '90's Pannies sound darned good, with their XBS and all, and they look respectable, too. (Not fancy, but respectable.) And, with working dual cassette decks, CD player, and digital tuner, you're in for hours of solid listening pleasure. Hold your head high, Skippy! A few years from now, when these oval beauties become collectible, you'll be able to say that you got in on the ground floor with a genuine bargain.

redbenjoe - 2009-02-13 09:03

after much careful consideration --
will agree that baby boomer is 66% spot on--

15 years from now --the shoes will be worn out --
the bra will no logger fit you,

but you will still be looking at that lame looking panny

ao - 2009-02-14 10:14

Bra's always fit. Mine are as snug as the day I bought them.

71spud - 2009-02-20 06:16

It looks like a perfect "bathroom box"...

It is very.... how do you say.... motivational... Leaving

This is a subject I like to comment on as frequently as possible. In fact that "Pana" was a steal for that price.Time is slipping by pretty quickly. That model has at least a decade on it and still looks new.I'm sure anyone who bought one of these when new would envy Skippy and what he paid. From what I know it should be a pretty decent sounding unit also. There are some of us here with a wide range of appreciation.I'm much this way actually. With few exceptions most all blasters interest me.Of course there are some really cheaply made ones, particularly current day offerings,I would certainly pass on.

I'm intrigued enough to use most all of the dozens of boxes I own.Like Skippy my collection is very diverse. If you have a months worth of boxes that's a different "flavor" every day.Depending on your needs or desires on a specific day,all can fill your requirement giving you a different user experience.Sometimes I'm wanting it loud and mean, sometimes low and soft.My needs vary from tapes,CD,line-in,A.M.,F.M.,and podcasts. There are times I don't want to lug around something heavy and times I don't mind. There are times I just want to appreciate something different. And yes, there are even days when I don't require things to sound or be old school.

The real problem comes if you want to get rid of some of the newer types.Even if a box is from as far back as the mid '90s,its not going to get much interest on Ebay unless its very unusual or upmarket.Of course if you eventually do sell it there would be no problem getting what you paid at Goodwill for the box. However it might take some patience to get a bid.I'm one of those that thinks post '80s boxes will eventually end up being a good investment given some time. Each decade the electronics industry seems to hit new surprising lows in product quality especially at the lower end of the price scale.Though sometimes it seems unimaginable how they could make things any flimsier,I'm sure they'll find a way. They always do.
