I STOP DREAMING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

success - 2009-04-05 16:53

I stop dreaming today when I picked-up this baby, a National Panasonic RS-4300 LJS. I've bougth it from a seller in Germany. It was sent to Miami. An then from Miami to Argentina

Why don't send the radio from Germany to Argentina ?

Beacause the Customs avoid importing devices that aren't new and runs on AC. STUPID rule. So I contacted somebody who import vintage stuff without problems. Of course the have some contacts inside the Customs. This person has an office at Miami, so the radio went to Miami first.

The whole thing started at the end of January, so I have to wait a lot for it.

Well packed, came in a metallic case with foam.
The case overweigthed the parcel a little but it's fine since the radio arrived perfect.

The radio was pretty clean. All is working, even tapedeck with excelent quality.
No cracks. The turner and cass window are like new, without scratches.
All switches and pots work fine without noise.
It come set at 220~250V which was fine, because we use 220V too ... ready to enjoy and love.

And you've won !!!

This baby sounds really nice.
Mid / highs are perfect in this boombox.
Altough it's a little bass shy, the bass is warm .....
Power handling look very big compared with the one specified (2300mW + 2300mW), and that's because it doesn't distort, even at loud volume position.
Tape deck mecha is a well known, very very reliable and built like a tank and forever.
Tape positions avaiable are normal/CrO2 (metal wasn't launched yet)
Switch operation is nice, they feel really good.
Turner performance is excelent, large scale (which includes the multifunction vu-meter) and lots of mechanical reduction in the tunning know makes you forget about the fine tunning.
It has the pointless sleep function and it doesn't have line-in position. You need to press REC&PLAY. It's a drawback I've seen in another panasonics (RS-4150).
Cosmetic details are superb. It's a very solid machine, it weights a lot by its size !!!!!
It operates at 9V (not 12V).
Vu-meter shows battery while playback, signal strength when using the turner and level while recording.

Thanks guys for the comments.

I was a bit frightened about the boombox, when I read many posts about boomboxes that arrived smashed, courtesy of DHL or UPS.
The seller was clever enough and used a metallic case to pack the pany.

I wish I had the owners manual ... Roll Eyes

Next National Panasonic to look for:

Mono RF-520JB. This and the RS4300 were my personal grails when I was child, altough neither were mine. The RS4300 is my aunt's boombox and RF-520JB was my grandfather boombox.

Impressive lookin' box! Cool Because it's so compact, it also looks like it might have some weight to it. Nod Yes

Glad it all worked out for you in the end. Congratulations! Smile
