That mini Sony with 5-band equalizer is nice!! Cool

transwave5000 - 2009-06-13 09:37

The MTC looks like a rebranded.
Maybe from Sanyo.

The CFS-350 looks very nice-and I like the fact it's got a 5 band EQ.

Also the MTC boombox looks very cool.

Hey Trans, you think it could have Sanyo components? I have ambivalent feelings about both Sanyo and Aiwa, primarily because as time went on, they were one of the first to really cut costs (and unfortunately, quality) on some of their more recent electronics. I had bad luck with Aiwa discmen and walkmen over the years, and pretty soon I realised that they were poor products in fancy dress...

The 1990s in my opinion were the death knell for quaity consumer electronics, particularly the late 1990s. Sure, some companies like Sony and Panasonic still had Japanese-made electronics widely available, but many of the choices were for higher-end equipment. The dividing line for quality nowadays is pretty significant, considering that the two states of supposed "quality" are total polar opposites. You have the Sony "golden years" of the late 1970's and 1980's, along with JVC, Panasonic, and many others..

I have been hesitatnt to own any Chinese made goods not because of the quality, but due to the living conditions those workers have and the fact that they have absolutely no freedom in making life decisions. I know that is a pretty political thing to say and I apologise for any offence, but I believe that a society that values its people and treats them well will output better products. That, and the Japanese work ethic is absolutely amazing.

Just my 2 cents...

Heres another version of this box.
Picture was taken around 1984.

There was a very sudden change in 1985
as boxes became very cheap and junky.

bendycat - 2009-06-16 09:34

I like this red box - in fact a have a soft spot for the little boxes in all Wink Cool

i guess the end of the 90's was a change for all company's, as they needed a different look for all there stock, and the 90's was know for being cheap - mass production of cheap gear that flooded the market and became overkill - this is the same thing that happened in the bmx market - lack of design - cheap materials - mass flooding - fatcats money making Roll Eyes
