JVC Fraternal Twins (+2)

baby.boomer - 2008-11-12 09:45

Just picked up an interesting variation of the JVC RC-555 to go with the one I have. The one I have is the typical USA issue, with a JW suffix. The new one is from the UK and has - ta da - a clock in the dial! It has a KL suffix (I assume the "K" is for klock and the "L" for longwave).

Notice that the JW has nifty chrome knobs, while the others have cheesy dark grey ones. (Hooray for the USA!)

Also including for your viewing pleasure is a photo I lifted (probably from S2G) of a standard Euro issue, with longwave, but no clock. Don't know the suffix, 'cos it's not mine. Also showing a Victor issue from Japan, courtesy of Turbo Sonic in Tokyo, courtesy of Stereo 80's.com who watermarked it, courtesy of someone on eBay who stole the photo and used it in his listing (which, ironically, was for a JVC and not a Victor). (Also ironically, or maybe tragically, when I sent the seller a message pointing out the discrepancy, I was banned from bidding on his auctions. C'est la vie!)

And now, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the photos...

Very nice! It's the subtle little differences that make them unique. A collection of variations is pretty cool. Smile

I really enjoy collecting different versions of the same box. I'm glad to hear other collectors like to do that, too! Big Grin
