My Notable Collection Additions

gluecifer - 2008-11-08 03:38

Thought I'd get a shot of my 3 newest additions and get down a bit about them for those who are interested.

The National RX-C52 was saved at the local tip for the grand ransom of AUD$15 (about US$8.50) and came up really nice with a clean and fresh belt. I'm still needing some help on the belt position though as it doesn't like recording or FFWDing or REWing,.. but Cues/Reviews and Plays fine. Great little radio. Love the design and she's my first National/Panasonic too, so there'll always be a soft spot for that one.

Next is the RC-M50. A pick up off ebay for a little bit more than I'd have liked (AUD$175), but when I got her out of the box all money was forgotten. Beautiful condition, she's got a couple of obligatory miniscule dents in the aluminium facisa but outside of that it's a minty fresh specimen. Not the biggest or bassiest, but geezum CROW she goes loud. Super cleanly loud too. I'm currently using her as a recorder from my pc for any reasonable format stuff I need to commit to cassette. I was intending to have the M50 as my go-to recorder for all the stuff I need to put on tape but the lack of phono preamp killed that idea. Still a great radio and looks lovely next to my RC-M70. Just need an M-90 now to complete my JVC wishlist... not expecting that to happen any time soon though. Lots of radios to get in the meantime, thats for sure.

The third addition is a personal grail, has been in my top 10 radios essential to validating my existence since I first saw her restored on here by Kittmaster, The RISING 20/20. To me this is THE radio. It is just the absoloute essence of a ghettoblaster. The design is one of my favourites ever, it just gets every single thing right, it takes the 80s street design like the Lasonic's and classes it up with super clean lines and focuses on two things: aggressive sound and lots of flashing lights, which are my most valued things in ghettoblasters. Many thanks to SINISTER for selling me this incredible radio, she cleaned up and restored nicely with a bit very enjoyable work. Cheers Sin, you're a true rocker.

One notably absent radio from this update is a GF-9000. This was in my top 10 personal grails too, and I won one on ebay.au for AUD$240 in October, then the seller decided he had enough of ebay and took my money and abandoned his accounts. Not much chance of ever getting my money back (no paypal for me yet) or getting the radio as the guy was obviously planning something like this eventuality and covered his tracks reasonably well. It's really disheartening as I'd previously bought my Sanyo X-620K off him and was planning to get a lot more off him.. now I just feel gutted and not sure if I even want to get a GF-9000 anymore after this crappy experience. Anyway, time heals as they say.. and if that's the worst thing that happens to me this year then I've no right to complain.

Ok, that's my update. Sorry if it's a bit too much to read, but I like having stories to go with all my radios and sharing it with you guys is all part of the fun for me.

Rock On.

hahaha, well when I think of stereo2go I think of my TPR-955.... and I think of this place a lot. I love having a connection to my radios that extend beyond what they are. I see my TPR-955 as my 'link' to all of you.

Rock On.

Incredible price for the National RX-C52 - she sure does shine! Eek

The JVC RC-M50 looks like a shrunken down M90 in some regards. Big Grin

I Agree 100% about the design of the Rising 20/20... When you look up ghettoblaster/boombox in the dictionary, there should be a picture of that box next to the definition - even more so than a Lasonic, Conion or whatever. Nod Yes The Rising 20/20 is an icon,... and I can't wait to get mine! Cool

Sad to hear about you getting played! Don't let that turn you off from tryin' to get that Sharp someday tho. Wink

Thanks for sharing! Smile

Nice contrasting boxes, three different size categories represented. You right, the Rising is a great classic example of a true boombox. Cool
