Discolite and Traveller

viennasound - 2008-11-01 12:54

Today i found on the flea 2 boxes for me.

In the late 80´s there were many "Discolite" Boxes sold, at the chinese electronic shops in Vienna. Monos and Stereos. I remembered the bad quality, but i loved the flashing led´s.
I never bought one, and they were only sold 2-3years.
I´ve never seen one of those again.
I think they landed all on the dump.
Till today!
I found an nice INTERNATIONAL (CRC-8003).
So it´s my first discolite.
Not so spectacular as the "Madonnas", but a beginning Big Grin

My second shot is this lovely ELIN 5322 "Mini+Slim".
It´s high quality.
Nice led-vu, bass,treble, ....
And extreme heavy.
Much more than the discolite - at the half size!
Maybe heavy metal inside? Big Grin
For travelling i think it´s the right box.
Perfect sound for this little thing.
Got for 8euros:

Comparing....

The plastic of the discolite is very cheap.
The buttons, the tapedeck, everything is bad quality.
The antenna is not moveable to the side.
Interesting:
The grip is lockable when it´s down - nobody knows why?
The led´s flashing in a fix system by random the tempo.
So it´s amazing that this box survived.
I try to restore it carefully, because it´s dirty all around.

it would be so cool if they made a boombox like the discolight but with good sound and a laser show. heheheh.
cool looking boombox.
they used to give those away here at the fair if you could shoot out the center of a star with a gun that couldnt shoot straight.

Very Nice! Those Discolites are very cool even if the quality is on the low side. Nod Yes

Thanks boys! Smile

Question at all big-discolite owners.
Does the lamps flash there with the music or also in a fix rhythm?

smokinendo - 2008-11-02 10:56

Photos, please! Razz

And this will be my next project:
Today i found this nice big HORNYPHON at the flea.
I plan to do something special with it.
The speakergrills will become black.
Inside i will mount a own produced discolite.
Flashing with the music.
Maybe some other "upgrades". Roll Eyes
So it looks now, but not long... Big Grin

do want to see it in here or you want me to start a thread ? (I wasn't trying to draw attention to myself in your thread I just thought it was cool we both found them on the same day LOL)

smokinendo - 2008-11-02 11:21

that HORNYPHON is DOPE looking too

I didn't find anything today other then a few records Smile

billpc55 - 2008-11-02 12:42

that horny boombox is the best thing ever.

viennasound - 2008-11-03 00:21

Today i tested it.
Radio works fine, cassette not fully.
So it needs a check up and maybe it becomes a decent paintjob too.
More in the next days... Wink
