My new Prosonic PRQ-9962

skippy1969 - 2009-01-24 11:40

I just thought I would post a couple of pictures of my latest. I won this Prosonic PRQ-9962 on ebay from seller Partime22.
I have wanted one of these for quite sometime and this one is almost mint and works perfectly.
It has a few marks and normal wear around the lettering . It even has the original antennas and the battery tubes.
It really sounds great and it is pretty well built.

i have one of those its a great sounding loud box exactly the same size as a trc 931.

skippy1969 - 2009-01-24 14:23

Cool Floyd! I really like it,it is big but not to big to be cumbersome or awkward. And it sounds really good (IMHO). Big Grin

jvc.floyd - 2009-01-24 15:44

thats a tough box and so damn easy to work on.

Great to see you landed one. That's an imposing looking box with some serious bass,Skippy!I'm interested in your opinion of its highs.I'm not satisfied with the tweets on mine as they just don't seem to put out a lot of sound. If I max out the treble, they just emit a weak sizzle.Unfortunately I don't have another 9962 to compare to it.I'd really like to exchange them for different tweeters. However if memory serves me correctly they are an odd impedance (3.2 Ohm?).Maybe mine are defective(?).

skippy1969 - 2009-01-25 21:01

Thanks Jovie.
Yes I think the tweters could be a little better, there not very "crisp" but not the worst I've ever heard. Nod Yes

ford93 - 2009-01-25 21:01

Skippy you got a nice one there, how I would love to hear it. Smile

skippy1969 - 2009-01-25 21:04

Thanks Ford. I really like it. It sounds quite nice and has nice "warm" bass sort of like a higher end Aiwa. The controls have a nice quality feel. Big Grin

I'm jealous! That Prosonic or Goldstar model is on my short list. All you need are the proper labels for the front of the speakers.
Check it out!

Peace,
Paul Z.

That's a great looking box, skippy! Cool

If you could compare the sound of the Prosonic to another box of similar size, what would it be and does it sound better?

jlf - 2009-01-26 15:41

A personal fave! Grail even!

This one has the cleanest back Ive ever seen!

All of mine, and there have been quite a few; were sun damaged.

They turn kinda weird yellow on the back, well; maybe its more of a tan? Either way, its a yucky color. Glad to see this one looks so fresh!

I think they sound great, except I always had a weird signal problem on line in. I probably needed a line leveler.

I still dont know much about those contraptions, and need to get one or two for my Sharp GF collection.

These Prosonics have what I consider to be one of the best sounding cassette mech's I have ever heard.

I totally thought it sounded every bit as clear as my Conion C-100F! The Cassette, not power wise... Although these do get loud!

skippy1969 - 2009-01-26 16:56

Thanks guys! Nod Yes Big Grin

Nice purchase "Skippy" I have two of them and have been thru them inside and out. Very very easy to work on and sound great!

skippy1969 - 2009-01-27 02:59

Thanks Chillin! yes I agree they are very easy to work on. I opened mine up to see if it needed cleaning inside (dustbunnies etc.) and it was super clean inside. Cool
