A Grail came to me (RX5350)

Same post on Boomboxery.

Well the history of this radio is a bit crazy...

I participate in a forum of audio and video, and once (2009) created a topic there about boomboxes, intending to get my Helix (aka CCE CSC1000 Jumbo in Brazil) and there appeared several members talking about the radios, some of them showing ours and even their Foley (B.Box Original here in S2G) showed up ...

After a long time without updates on the topic, behold, this week a message came from there, and when I see climbs was a guy who had found a radio close to home and had bought to do a job at a rehabilitation center for young offenders, but at the same time, an opportunity arose to buy a keyboard synthesizer, the purchase of the radio he was broke (it's a Hip Hop Producer)

He searched the web found that besides a somewhat rare, was sold for a high price in auctions sites (when available) and decided the sale, announcing in that  audio and video forum was selling.

When I saw what it was, I sent an email to him and asked him not to do anything with the radio before talking with me, because my interest was great and was as close to home (28Km) mark on Friday night and I was until then see what it was.

it coming, I was introduced to the grail, he showed me that the only fault (which will be difficult to remedy, I think) is the glass cover of the tape deck that he has, but has a few marks of time (it was made 1982), but I confess that even though it was totally not working, I'd get anyway, because of the rarity of this radio.  :hmmm:

(Telling everyone, the guy found the grail in an electronics store maintenance, the court next to his house). = WILD!!!  :w00t:

Then I better pictures and a video with some good music, but I warn everyone:

My reference radio for now, is not this one, but the RX-DT909 (yes, the egg) that while ugly, delivers the sound with much more detail than any of the radios I own (even more than my two FH's to Sony or my Kaboom).

In appearance, it beats all I own and certainly where the guy come to him in hand, commands respect  :breakdance:  ... ...  Great and loud unity, but in detail and sound stage, the EGG is unbeatable at home.  ;-)

PS: those that pops on screws when I disassembled to clean inside and the type of dust  I found, I believe that he had not been disassembled before.

Ira.

It my seem silly, but after listening music on the Panny 909, even this rare and BIG 5350 is not a "master" with music made at 303 and 808 (Roland Synths).
It is very good with real instruments, but not accurate with fast and punch bass (even live bass), because (I guess) his woofers work best in the medium spectrum.
I'm thinking of modifying it (not now), searching around, woofers with high sensitivity (+90 dB) same power specs and better bass response.

Let's see ...

i think your 909 will have a more accurate sound than

any box you ever try -- really

Congrats hardmen, I have two 5350's but not as attractive as the model you have. I have the national versions with the grey grills and the shallow mics. Yours looks the best IMHO.

redbenjoe - 2011-03-31 21:33

agree, retro -

thats the big prize of the 3 versions
