My Very Small Collection...

thebeardedlady - 2011-09-08 12:26

So I now have a total of 2 boomboxes with a 3rd on the way.  Here are pictures of them plus something that isnt a boombox what I thought was quite cool!

The first one is a Sanyo M990.  The photo was literally just taken now, so the speaker grills are currently in the garage drying after a wee respray.  Shes not quite finished, still needs a little cleaning and the belts done and the tuner tweeked but I love the look of it.

The second is a Questar Turbo 2900 which I picked up cheap off ebay and I literally know nothing about (google produces nothing)...so feel free to chip in if you know anything about it.

The third is a JVC KD-720 Cassette Deck.  I found it at my local and only second hand shop (I live an isolated life on an island) so i bought it for a fiver.  I just loved the analogue VU meters, plus it works!  I think its from the late 70's but again dont know much about it.

Cheers for looking!

luvin the sanyo........very cool.......nice jvc too.......nice and retro

thebeardedlady - 2011-09-08 12:56

But not the Questar? Haha

Yeah I think the JVC looks cool, I never knew such a thing existed until I saw it.  I guess they were used a piece before I was born.

ghettoman - 2011-09-08 13:04

hey man..that questar, look at daves project,he took out the old crt screen and fitted an lcd freeview tv in its place, was good that dave

Oh and the sanyo is nice,i like it !!

thebeardedlady - 2011-09-08 13:14

I actually bought it after seeing Daves project in the hope I can do the same, I was really impressed with it!  She'll need to sit on the shelf for a while though until I gain more experience with electronics...

Yeah the Sanyo's my favourite so far!

sega - 2011-09-08 13:15

I wish my bargin stores got cool older stuff in, usually its just more recent rubbish with the occasional portable egg.

Im on 3 Boxes myself, a Hitachi trk8110e, a Panasonic RX-DS660 and a Crown CSC-950F, I have other old audio stuff too including a Hacker Sovreign 2 radio and a Walkman shaped as a Coke can.

Out of all of your items I would say the Sanyo is my favorite, I quite like them and almost bought one insted of the crown

thebeardedlady - 2011-09-08 13:26

Its few and far between here, i check like every 2 days!

I really like the crown!  How does it sound?

sega - 2011-09-08 13:35

Pretty good, the belts have had it for playback and theres no means of tuning the radio but using the adapter it came out lovely, Bass is nice and rich and it can get deafeningly loud, Only bad thing I have to say about mine was that it stank to the heavens so I emptyied a can of lynx on it and stood it out in the garden for a few hours

Yeah the JVC deck is no where near mint as you can see from the pictures but I thought it was a bit different.  I have it hooked into a 4 channel amp connected to 4 speakers in my room and it works great!!

ghettoman - 2011-09-08 17:01

i used to actually have one of these jvc decks,it was top of the range at the time,i've never seen another like it..beautifull decks..

thebeardedlady - 2011-09-08 17:17

I like it!  It looks like the father of mine.
