Congrats Boombox ace, I wonder which came first, the Sharp GF-525 or the Sony CFS-F5.

boomboxace - 2012-05-10 16:17

claret.badger - 2012-05-10 17:49

debatable

if you mean louder - then Sharp maybe better
if you mean better audio - then Sony will be better

It is one of my worst-sounders

Weak....no bass.....and the highs are only average.

It sounds like an RX-5150.....Which is to say, like an inch of carpet was covering the speakers

Good question.
Most likely, in this case, Sharp was the first with that unusual layout, cause GF-525 in fact is a modified GF-555, which appeared in 1979, and GF-818, japanese version of GF-525, came out in 1980,

but the Sony CFS-F5 has appeared only in 1981' catalog.

i don't have that Panasonic

But I have the 5050 and the 5250
and they're two of the best sounding mid size boxes i've heard hands down

boomboxace - 2012-05-11 17:18

It seems your right metad Sharp was first !

Don't ever buy a 5150

Great build quality, great ambiance setting

But lame sound

Put your ear up to the tweeters.......nothing....
