Two 70s bboxes

deech - 2013-05-25 02:46

Here are my latest additions

A Sanyo M9990K and a Goldstar TSR540

The Goldstar was given to me as a present from a friend

it has an incredible sound with 4

proper speakers and  i m so impressed with the quality

of this early example .

Browsing the web i have found out that  two (now defunct) South Corean

electronic companies LUCKY(Lasonic) and Goldstar merged

to make the now Vvery well known LG .

The name LG comes from the first two letters of each!!

The Sanyo came from an ad at the newspaper !!

A woman called me saying that she has what i m asking for, so

after 24 km here i am back home with an M9990K.

The Sanyo has seen better days but i ll try to bring this back

as much as i can. If anyone has the spare parts i need for it

i d gladly take them .

What i need is

1. Tape Counter

2. Replacement antenna

Oh and if anyone has worked on one before i d glady read his/her advice

Do the speakers grills come off easily??

nice scores deech ,  the 9990 is a good sounding box i rebelted one not long ago also sorted out the lcd to get the clock working but i can not tell you how the grills come out should be straight forward tbh

deech - 2013-05-25 03:07

Deli have you seen if the grills are glued or just attached to the main body?

i m asking this because on mines they need a respray.

driptip - 2013-05-25 20:40

Not a mint one but hey its huge  !!

Lav check the link on english wiki which actually says that :

In 1995, to compete better in the Western market, the Lucky-Goldstar Corporation was renamed "LG", (the abbreviation of "Lucky-Goldstar"). The company also associates the letters LG with the company's tagline "Life's Good", which is actually a backronym.

Drip both are early examples though SONY580 has more features

Metad thought Lasonic and Lucky are the same company. When

i cleaned some Lasonics i had,the parts inside were writing Lucky

tbh some of the LPC range of the Lasonic but i ve seen a flagship

model too to be branded with the name Lucky (TRC920).

I m pretty sure i ve seen Lucky elsewhere, for example the TRC-913

Which is a rebranded Lasonic TRC913.

Here are some pics too support this .

i m a bit confused though

Here is a link for a Lucky TRC-913 that ended some time ago

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-IN...rksid=p2047675.l2557

This 913 has even got the same closing patent that Lasonic used

in its own cartons if you look closely at the 1st pic. (check the red spot that looks like a circle above ''STEREO'' at the box.)

deech - 2013-05-27 06:20

I ve found this interesting thread too !!!

Where else ?? here on s2go

Nice finds! The Sanyo M9990's grills have tabs and glued in place after they are bent. I haven't tried to take mines out yet.

What did you mean?

Did you mean you thought that Lasonic and Lucky are the same company ?

Even there are "AKA" boxes branded as Lasonic and Lucky - these are different companies.

I've seen an AKAIWA TRC-931, looking exactly like a Lasonic 931, so what?

Does it mean that taiwanese Lasonic, korean Lucky, and chinese AKAIWA - are the same company?

No, it doesn't.

deech - 2013-05-29 06:33

Managed to respray the grills on the m9990!

you can check a pic at the ''clip'' section of the forum !

Metad i m saying this about LUCKY and Lasonic because

i think they have more things in common.

Maybe Lucky is the parent company of Lasonic

as mentioned in the thread

above.

I dont say this with quite certainity but chances are that this is the

most likely scenario.

And in no way i meant to be an absolute minded about that.

Maybe Lucky used to sent parts from Korea to Lasonic (Taiwan)

Who knows??

How can one explain the same carton boxes???

and what i mean is that they have the same closing patent

as you can see from the pic below.

Lucky is not "parent company" of Lasonic.
Those Lucky boomboxes, you mentioned above, were made in Taiwan, by taiwanese company Yung Fu - the manufacturer of Lasonic boomboxes.
That's the reason why they look like Lasonic's.
Because they are Lasonic's, but with "Lucky" badge.
That's all.
That explains why packing boxes are the same type - because they were made on the same factory.

The same as Sharp made boxes for GE, Siemens, Realistic, etc.

andyboombox - 2013-05-30 02:18

just love the m9990,and how i wish i could get another,my personal grail box, hope you get her sorted matey, had a run of luck myself up to recently now its gone quiet again.have fun with all the stuff your getting

deech - 2013-05-30 09:43

Thank you Andy you d be the first to know if i get bored of it !

Metad you are probably right !!

Take a look at this Lasonic TRC-909

and a Lucky from a Greek cult movie

seen on 05:06 .

They are exactly the same.

If you take a close look at the pictures from your own link,

you can see the back plate - which says that Lucky TRC-913 was made in Taiwan by Yung Fu.

andyboombox - 2013-05-31 03:42

Metad that must explain why backplates of  Lasonics from the LPC Model Range

have embossed the word LUCKY inside of them eh??

Thanks for all this info.
