Liking the three mini JVCs. Also like the QT...seen a few on eBay and like the look, like the red trim. Not heard one tho, what's it sound like?

Hi Seb968! you have some nice unusual models in your collection are they mostly found locally "in the wild"?

seb968 - 2013-10-01 15:29

Hi

Yes they were mostly found in the wild, car boot sales are an addiction for me. I pad £8 for the QT-90 from Bishop's Stortford car boot and it is in great condition. Sound quality is very, very good. Sounds much bigger than it is. Detatchable speakers, dolby nr, hi speed dubbing and a 5 band eq, all in a very portable package. This lives in my kitchen dinner and is my most freaquently used box.The RC-363 (top) is very nice, grate "Biphonic" (stereo wide) implementation. Bougt from ebay as a non worker. It was pretty knackerd. Needed a new motor (bearing was shot), new heads, pinch roller, new capstan belt and an idler wheel tyre. To cap it all the main amplifier board was full of dry joints! Spent a few hours on this one, but she was worth it.The other two mini JVC's were car boot finds. The RC-25, (second one down) needed a lot of work too. Dry joints again. Sharp GF-6060 was in great shape, another boot sale find, not the most exciting looking machine but I like it because it is well made and easy to work on. The little JVC lives on the mantle piece in my living room. Sweet thing, £3 from Amwell car boot! The Sharp GF-1740 needs some work, transformer is duff (voltage selector had been set for 110v!), tape speed is slow. Waiting for it's turn on the test bench!

Ah it seems you're a bit of a techie Seb...always good to get some new skills/knowledge in to the forum...one of the best bits of the forum is the sharing of repair knowledge so we can all get as many of these beauties as possible back up to A1

£8 for a QT90?...love these bargains!

seb968 - 2013-10-02 05:06

Yeh, i'm an electronics engineer, more than happy to share repair knowledge and help out if I can.

Bargains like the QT-90 don't come along too often, but they do from time to time. I was lucky!

ooh an electronics engineer?!...right, whats your address that we send all our faulty boxes to for repair? lol...hope you've got plenty of room for the hoardes of boxes heading your way

There always seems to be a degree of intolerance towards boxes from other halves lol...mine is pretty good really...got all mine on display in the tv room, one in the kitchen, one in the bedroom etc and she doesn't complain too much even tho she really doesn't like them.  But if a lorry load for repair turned up then that would definitely be another matter

My brother in law is an electronic engineer too, and an audio one at that...he works for Marshall Amps making the bespoke ones for rock gods lol...he's too busy to help me with anything tho

My Mrs is pretty good too really; Just have to be careful not to go too far! As I say ; I would love to help out where I can, can’t promise that I’ll know any more than you people, but I’ll try. Marshall amps eh, that sounds pretty cool!
