I struck Gold(star) :)

northerner - 2013-10-17 11:28

So I saw this box pop up on eBay on a cheap (£50) BIN deal...I loved the look of it and wanted something different, something a bit rare in the UK. Well luckily the wife had had a couple of glasses of wine (it was Saturday night) so I managed to persuade her to temporarily lift my buying ban lol!

Well its come all the way from Germany to the UK and it only took 7 days. Seller was great...packed with a new strong carton, polystyrene and tons of bubble wrap...and even plastic wrapped the boombox itself.

Well I've had a bit of a play with it and gambling on a box I could find almost nothing on the web seems to have paid off!!!...it only flamin rocks!!!! Everything's works perfectly, condition is very good, and has now had a detailed clean.

At low volume its nothing special but turn it up and it sounds fantastic on its proper RCA line in...LEDs bounce like crazy and aren't volume affected so they bounce whatever the volume.

Has good bass and lots of high end but its the stereo wide that's most impressive...on most boxes I don't use the wide setting as normal stereo sounds better to my ears but on this the wide is WIDE! And its loud...you can see the chrome caps bounce.

Need to compare it side by side with some others but its one of the best fifty quids I've spent....LOVE IT!

Behold the loveliness of my Goldstar TSR 640...its the same height and depth as my M70 but a little shorter so its no tiddler

That box looks in good order mate, i quite fancy a Goldstar myself.

northerner - 2013-10-17 12:49

Well if they're all as good as this and the 800 then go for it! Just nice to have something different and this sucker is loud!!

seb968 - 2013-10-17 13:00

Looks great, nice and solid, does it sound as good as your M-70?

northerner - 2013-10-17 13:37

Sound as good as the M70?...nope...but then not many mid size boxes do. Not got the fab bass of the M70 but it goes really loud and the wide setting is fabulous when you stand in front of it...sounds kinda alive if you get what I mean lol

michiel - 2013-10-17 13:41

That's a very good looking box! Super cool that's it sounding great too! You took a good gamble by pushing that bin button! Congrats with it!

samovar - 2013-10-17 13:50

what a beautiful box! i like the look of it and i like even more that it's not at all a common unit! supercongrats also on the timing of your choice of the right bouquet of wine...

northerner - 2013-10-17 13:56

Thanks fellas! The only one I know who definitely had one was Jens and no doubt he'll have sold that on. I like the look of it...those speakers are sooo black

smeats1976 - 2013-10-17 14:21

Nice one! its agreat feeling when a gamble pays off! and the idea for approaching the subject of boombox buying when the wife is merry on the vino is gold dust!, timing is everything!

stereo.mad - 2013-10-17 14:51

Si
That's a real bargain mate
I would have risked divorce at that price!

congrats si looks nicer than an m70...well done mate

lee get divorced anyway who needs wimen haha....then you can have another 200 boomboxes haha

northerner - 2013-10-18 02:46

Ha ha yeh the timing was perfect, wouldn't have got away with it otherwise, though I've been good recently and sold a few like I promised her...clearly the alcohol made the biggest difference though!

Defo a bargain this one as the shipping was only £16 too all the way from Germany.

And pretty uncommon is an understatement...not come across anyone who currently owns one yet...GZ on boomboxery has a 641 but that's the closest so far

deliverance - 2013-10-18 03:41

nice box si for £50 bargain

schneil - 2013-10-18 04:47

Is it ok on 240V?  (being a 220V box)

northerner - 2013-10-18 05:31

Household voltage varies a lot so there's gotta be a degree of tolerance...John (beosystem) says a surge protector socket should be enough to keep it safe

brutus442 - 2013-10-18 07:04

Well done Si. It's a classic looking street box and for 50...you really can go wrong.

Now share the speech you gave your wife in order for her lifting the buy-ban you (and I) were under. This will prove to be more valuable than the C100 schematics!

Well thats easy mate...all I said was 'have another glass of wine dear'...followed up with 'have another glass of wine dear'...and so on

Actually what I really did was promise to sell another box that would raise more than the £50 cost of this one...she's admitted she's getting completely confused as to what I've agreed to buy and sell at this stage so I may even get away with not actually selling one more lol

brutus442 - 2013-10-18 08:20

Sage advice Si...especially the wine

deech - 2013-10-19 09:08

Northerner you cheater !! you broke your promise

to your wife and now you are trying to escape

without selling one of your boxes !

I m just joking ofcourse!!

Now this Goldstar looks so nice !

Great to see your collection getting bigger

and we need updated pics of your box corner !

northerner - 2013-10-19 09:23

Ha ha Deech, at least my cheating only involves boxes and not other women lol So she should be grateful lol

My collection is getting better rather than bigger as I've ebayed a few of the lower end ones to pay for these better ones. I've a few tweaks I want to do to my boom corner then I might take some more pics

deech - 2013-10-19 09:34

All i m trying to say Si is sell a box !!

That could preferably be the GF9000 and you can sell it

to me as you promised to your wife !!!

For sure your collection is getting better! That is so good to see

northerner - 2013-10-19 09:50

Lol that 9000 will never leave me not after the many many hours I put into it

I'm listing a box tomorrow so that should keep her happy for the moment...until she realises that it was one I'd already agreed to get rid of before lol

deech - 2013-10-19 09:57

Hehe i understand the situation !!

Does your wife tell you which box  she likes and which

box is junk ??

northerner - 2013-10-20 01:34

Which box she likes?...you're assuming she likes some of them...she doesn't like any of them and thinks they're all junk! Lol. She tolerates them as she knows how much I love em

deliverance - 2013-10-20 01:55

if my other half gives me greif i refuse to give her spends

What's worse than a Male Chauvinist Pig? A woman that won't do what she's told.

oink oink!

northerner - 2013-10-20 03:00

Ha ha it's funny how all the hen pecked husbands are so brave when their better halves aren't listening lol
