Addiction - somebody please stop me!

jt.techno - 2013-10-23 00:43

This hobby (should u call it that) is already getting addictive. I started with a Sharp, which turned out to have a dodgy amp ...then saw a Tosh that I used to have when I was a teenager (had to have it ... nostalgia ... what more can u say) then saw a very interesting Aiwa and then a Sharp with a good amp to replace the original ... I must take a break now ... getting expensive already ... I am definitely stopping on my recent spending spree as need to spend time refurbishing what I have invested in ... already fixed the first Sharp's dodgy cassette player (thanks Northerner for the tips) but struggling with amp still ... anyway, will try to result in one good Sharp from the two I now have ... will look to report on progress if anybody is still reading this far ... signing off now ... watch this space ... JT :-)

It's definitely an addiction lol...a fun one tho

I try to only have one at a time that needs work...I don't like having a pile of them that need fixing as I like to get them up and running as soon as possible

Then when you've fixed them all you buy another as a reward lol

One at a time is a good idea, I have two on the go at the moment; it clutters up the test bench!! As for the adiction side of this hobby; I don't think there is any cure!

The Aiwa looks the most work currently - I seem to have bad luck with audio as right channel on this one does not work ... although both VU meters are working OK ... so I'm hoping just a loose or dirty connection somewhere. It's an Aiwa 980 ... haven't seen much on internet on this model but looks quite unique with both front facing woofers and side facing mid/high range speakers ... has whole complement of input/output connections on rear and seems quite loud on one channel that works. Opened it up for first time today but seems quite jam packed inside, so looks like a longer job than the Sharp 9191 project I still have to complete ... so will probably try and finish the 9191 first - happy days :-)

Good luck with both of those, love the 9191, will have to bag another one one day; getting to like Aiwas as well.

Hi Docs - oops - missed your question for two days (been busy replacing all belts and freeing up motor on my Tosh RT-S782 and also refurbing my GF-9191X as per other topic I posted) - I'm near Portsmouth in UK ... will be looking into (literally) the Aiwa soon but not just yet - half term hols are upon me and my family - say no more - where has the time gone already :-)

Shame, I'm north by too far for a quick commute otherwise I could have assisted with your box issues.

jt.techno - 2013-10-30 13:07

That is a shame - thanks for the offer though :-)
