Mint sanyo m9998

stereo.mad - 2013-11-13 13:10

Picked this up today
It has been sat for most of its life in its original box under the the stairs of the only owner it's ever had
Came with its original box.... Two mic's in there wrappers .....and the original demo tape
I'm sure I'll get shot for saying this but I personally think it sounds better than its bigger brother the 920...... I just think it has more bass to it! Is there anyone that agrees?
This is a unit I wish I got sooner... Well worth getting

deech - 2013-11-13 13:15

Dont have one to compare it to but

looks minty fresh Stereo !!!

Nice addition mate, way to go !

deliverance - 2013-11-13 13:16

thats a beauty top condition to,  very underated box and yes they are more bassy than the 920 but not as clear imho

jt.techno - 2013-11-13 13:21

Was that the one in North London that I saw on ePay a few days ago? ... I did ponder bidding on that one but ... c'est la vie ... looks great ... nice catch :-)

nickfish - 2013-11-13 14:17

You are right about the sound. The 920 is more sophisticated both in sound and operation but the 9998 is a bruiser. One of my favourites and full of surprises. Good score Lee.

michiel - 2013-11-13 14:21

Looks like new indeed! Tapehead looks like it just left the factory! What a nice find!

brutus442 - 2013-11-13 14:53

Who in their right mind would leave this gem in a box for most of it's existance??

I vote....SCORE OF THE YEAR

retro - 2013-11-13 15:06

Nice score! especially in that condition, never heard one before but it looks very solid.

sonburn - 2013-11-13 15:08

i just got one too a couple weeks ago, not as minty fresh but a definite 8/10 all around & i agree, it does sound fantastic, it's built to fuck shit up. congrats on an awesome score, enjoy it!

stereo.mad - 2013-11-13 15:50

Cheers guys
I would class this model as a high end box for sure!.... The build quality is top just like the 920
Boxes like these really do put some of the later black boxes to shame although I like them to!

stereo.mad - 2013-11-13 15:54

....and jt, yes it is that one, bargain of the century I think...surprised it never fetched more money

seb968 - 2013-11-13 16:07

That is one truly beautiful stereo. Mint and complete. I bet there are not many in that sort of condition. It ticks all the right boxes for me! Congratulations on a fantastic find!

(P.S. What’s on the demo tape!)

stereo.mad - 2013-11-13 16:12

Not played the tape yet Seb but I think the first track is house of the rising sun.... But dated for a 80's demo tape I thought!

Yes but at least it's half decent! (Thats assuming that it is the Animals doing it and not some cheesey cover version!)

stereo.mad - 2013-11-13 16:17

Seb
Scroll up....iv just aded a pic of the demo tape

jt.techno - 2013-11-13 16:18

Cool - really pleased for you - I am a bit short on the spondulicks at the moment, so you had a clear run against me on this one - glad it went to a good home :-)

Cheers!

hanksey72 - 2013-11-13 18:21

i was keeping an eye on it,if i had known how good it is i would have bid on it probably

but the postage was expensive though and would have limited the final bid amount.

still what a gem it is and in good company and one great sounding box also.

driptip - 2013-11-13 19:04

congrats stereo mad, that unit sure is a keeper, i used to have one very solid and heavy too, a bit short but the mics make up for it, what a way to end the year

freddie.boombox - 2013-11-13 19:33

 wow! amazing! congratulation!

aestereo - 2013-11-13 21:15

You must be feeling as if you got a time machine and bought it from the showroom yesterday.

radio.raheem - 2013-11-13 21:59

Nice one Lee...i forgot about this one...and yup they do sound better than the 920

both great boxes though

northerner - 2013-11-13 22:55

Nice one Lee...lovin those mics too...looks very cool with those in place

samovar - 2013-11-13 23:16

I'll have to disagree...a friend and I did an unbiased soundoff with 2 similar condition 9998k and 2 similar condition 920's with caps and pots replaced and trust me when I tell you it wasn't even close. Sound clarity, bass response and soundstage all went to the 920. When playing a cassette tape the distance grew further. I like the 9998k, but love the 920.

smeats1976 - 2013-11-14 04:51

nice to see there are still boxes as original as this out there! nice score Lee! you can now use the mics to record yourself having a karaoke style singalong to some of your fave tunes!

That is something most of us don't have the luxury or skill to do but i agree most of these boxes would benifit hugely after a re capping also the sanyo 920 looks much nicer imho

mitchelljames - 2013-11-14 10:09

Lee, do you have two of these now????

stereo.mad - 2013-11-14 13:02

No save it's the only one I have...
Maybe you was thinking of my 920?

mitchelljames - 2013-11-14 14:59

I think that might be what i was thinking

Very nice purchase btw

mrupscale1 - 2014-06-01 14:14

Great sounding unit!!!

andyboombox - 2014-06-02 02:47

well done lee-im always amazed at how sexy these sanyos look-always admired them-and to find it in the original box, with mics etc is a dream come true-one of the best sanyos alongside the 920 in my book so blast it loud lee and be proud

tster - 2014-06-02 11:52

Absolute beauty, I had a look at this to but have spent waay too much on boxes lately so help off. The 920 is my personal grail but I may  have to investigate one of these as it looks awesome and they seem a little easier to find. Great score.

dinosaur - 2014-06-02 12:30

I was offered one of these for £75 a few years back. It was brand new and boxed complete with mics etc,but it's not really my cup of tea. I asked if any members here were interested in it, and offered to buy it on their behalf but surprisingly there was no takers.
