The number of the beast is ...?

deech - 2013-11-20 10:06

Woe to You Oh Earth and Sea
for the Devil sends the beast with wrath
because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding
reckon the number of the beast
for it is a human number
its number is... ??

northerner - 2013-11-20 12:20

Wow that's nice Deech I'd love a 9696...it's like the 9494 (which I love) but on steroids!

Congrats on a great find...tho I can't believe you actually had to buy a box over the web like the rest of us slobs...surely you've stumbled across a few of these for a couple of euros each at one of your usual haunts?! Lol

bison - 2013-11-20 12:23

deliverance - 2013-11-20 14:33

well done deech !  the 9696 is a sharp i like

samovar - 2013-11-21 07:27

9696 is indeed a sharp number...

source: http://wordspy.com/words/sharpnumber.asp

...with some beastly properties (the latter in bold; my notes in square brackets):

"[...] Number 9696 is a composite number. Factors of 9696 are 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 3 * 101. Number 9696 has 24 divisors: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, 48, 96, 101, 202, 303, 404, 606, 808, 1212, 1616, 2424, 3232, 4848, 9696. Sum of the divisors is 25704. Number 9696 is not a Fibonacci number. It is not a Bell number [that's because it's a Sharp number]. Number 9696 is not a Catalan number [indeed, deech's unit comes from Spain, not from Catalonia] Number 9696 is not a regular number (Hamming number) [no ham, but a slight hum when the unit is on]. It is a not factorial of any number. Number 9696 is an abundant number [= huge box] and therefore is not a perfect number [= not mint] [...]"

source: http://www.numberempire.com/9696

however bison is right, 666 is more beastly sharp:

"A mathematically important number sequence is:

7, 17, 19, 23, 29, 47, 59, 61, 97, 109, 113, 131, 149, ...

which is the sequence of primes p whose reciprocal in base 10 has maximum period p-1. The last one, 1/149 with period 148, has the following digits after the decimal point (which then repeat):

0067114093959731543624161073825503355
7046979865771812080536912751677852348
9932885906040268456375838926174496644
2953020134228187919463087248322147651

As luck would have it, the sum of these is 666. If these 148 numbers (the first 148 digits of 1/149) are written as the top row of a 148x148 square grid, and then the digits of 2/149 as the second row, then 3/149 and so on, the result is a 148x148 pseudo-magic square, in which every row and column sums to 666."

i'll leave to you to decide how to dub "beastly" as far as the gf 666 is concerned...

i need my blues brothers glasses to look at this beaut, as shiny as the Koh-i-Noor!

deech - 2013-11-24 06:31

It also has a sound to match !!

Bassy and crisp clear highs .

Its a Sharp worth having.

Always like your posts Sal .

samovar - 2013-11-24 06:36

how does it compare to the GF 9494? and to the Rising 20/20? I have heard both (the latter I even had for a short while) and they're both very satisfying as far as sound is concerned. they look less spectacular though

deech - 2013-11-24 06:48

Well as the title says the GF9696Z is a beast !!

It beats both 9494 and 20/20 in terms of sound .

All 3 of them are beauties but like Si said the 9696

is like a 9494 on steroids !!

What surprised me is its bass.

Its sound is warm and when i heard it for the first

time i was quite amazed .

I turned the volume up till 6 and it vibrated the floor.

this box can get really loud too without distortion.

One of the best sounding boxes i ve heard in a few words !!

Well it looks great and I have allways wonderd what they sound like! Your high praise makes me want to get my hands on one of these!  I expect they are quite rare compared to the 9494 though.

Actually looks as if this one should sound better; just look at it; it’s a thing of beauty! Looks aren’t everything of course but in this case, well it looks big, sophisticated, and I would love to see which one would win in a head to head. Almost hope it would be the Sharp; JVC seem to take all the glory, and as much as I like them it would be good to see the crown go to something else for a change!

bison - 2013-11-25 07:54

great pics Deech its a looker the 9696

deech - 2013-11-25 10:43

Thanks for all the nice words guys!

A comparison between both the M70 and the GF9696

will be made soon !

Just a quick comment is that the 9696

seems to be the winning unit .
