but the actual output is way higher

devoltoni - 2008-11-24 08:35

Woooaaaah, nice "top dog~" you find henrytai. I love that National. Eek

henrytai - 2008-11-24 08:44

Your home canĀ“t be better sounding! Wink

It remembers me to an car-crazy friend.
He said he bought not a house with garage - he bought a garage with house! Laugh Out Loud

redbenjoe - 2008-11-24 11:29

Smilevery Cool post, henry Big Grin

henrytai - 2008-11-24 11:51

damn~~~ it's real cool~!!
i like the stereo mics very much~!!
anyone hv a RX-7700 here??

masterblaster84 - 2008-11-24 12:00

Nice one henry, Congrats! Cool

The 7700 is one very heavy box, you don't throw that one on your shoulder and strut down the street.

henrytai - 2008-11-24 12:22

yeah it's heavy~ but it's sound per pound~indeed

vladi123456 - 2008-11-24 13:21

I like how mine sounds. I think - everybody who doesn't like theirs - might have a defective unit Smile

henrytai - 2008-11-24 13:31

I Agree I Agree I Agree I Agree
it's one of the best sounding grails~!!
if you think your RX-7000/7200 is good
the 7700 is way better~!!! Cool

redbenjoe - 2008-11-24 13:39

ok -- mine's defective Laugh Out Loud

henrytai - 2008-11-24 13:40

go fix it RBJ~!! Laugh Out Loud

reli - 2008-11-24 13:49

Ira, you have a 7700? You're the one who told me they have no bass. I believed you, because my 5150 doesn't have any either, and I heard the 5500 doesn't either. I think Panasonic is one of those too-proud companies that thinks of themselves as "adultlike" and "mature" and would never stoop to the level of manufacturing bass-heavy kids boxes that distort too early.

litfan - 2008-11-24 13:49

Argh. can`t stand the damn things.

masterblaster84 - 2008-11-24 13:50

I Agree with Vladi and henry, nice sounding box or as Vladi puts it at least ours are. Nod Yes

- 2008-11-24 13:54

yuch

matrixambience - 2008-11-24 14:15

7700 rules!!!!! Mine just rocks! No bi-amping and six speaker offset sharpie POS GF-777 here....Remember in 1980,this was the first boombox that many lesser electronic makers "tried" to duplicate, but failed. 1981-1984 brought the big super powered hitters (M90,C-100,GF-777/999,Fisher PH,etc.), but nothing can compare to this beast for it build quality, and its looks????....Oh man its freakin' beautiful!! I can't take my eyes off of mine....oh and the sound it produces is home stereo quality, and the cassette mechanism is rock solid!

redbenjoe - 2008-11-24 14:34

reli --the peer pressure to like this box is now overwhelming !!
so---
OKOK - of course it has 'some' bass --

but - if you consider its weight and massive MASS Smile. its serious appearance and the going $$ price -
its been disappointing.

it should be stated here that all over the UK --

its known as the "LIT-LUMP"
Laugh Out Loud

litfan - 2008-11-24 14:40

Big Grin. You got it ira. I wouldn`t touch another with a bargepole.

redbenjoe - 2008-11-24 14:44

well rich --i am glad these so many do like them --so when i put mine up for sale here -- these fools will be $$ all over it Big Grin

litfan - 2008-11-24 14:49

Cha`mone brother.

matrixambience - 2008-11-24 14:50

whatever a bargepole is?? You boys over in UK keep collecting those sharps.....

litfan - 2008-11-24 14:55

Yep, they do.

Laugh Out Loud

The 777 sure seems to have quite a following, even though there's 5-6 on Ebay at any given moment so it can't be called rare..........And I personally think it's somewhat ugly. I'm sure lots of people think it looks great, but I'm betting it's a subconscious emotion based on the simple fact that it's BIG.......and Americans and American emulators like BIG THINGS......It's that OVERKILL bigger is better mentality that defines the American ghetto experience, lol. And that's cool, I can certainly appreciate that.......But I find it to be an awkward looking box, with the way the center 2 speakers are offset from the other 2, and how the tape deck is up at the left.....It's not symmetrical is what I'm trying to say. Now I WILL say it looks good with black mesh over it, but without the mesh it looks......uh.....pieced together? The 7700 is 100 times better looking........Even though you have to push a button to activate the dial light, lol. A quality box like the 7700 should have a permanent dial light, IMO. Also why did everyone use filament light bulbs instead of LEDs for their dial lights? Stupid IMO, because they burn out and you have to keep replacing them. OK enough rambling.

matrixambience - 2008-11-24 16:16

Why would anyone want to have a 777 in their collection? I agree with you Reli on its looks too.....UGLY! The 7700 is hot on looks bigtime!!

redbenjoe - 2008-11-24 16:17

the 7700 dial light becomes permanent upon the insertion of a toothpik

success - 2008-11-24 17:01

When the 7700 was launched led technology was earlier. Only the typical red and green flavors that don't serve to backligth the display.
Bulbs also bring a warn and vintage look.

Opinnion:

I't difficult you get dissapointed with a National, moreover with this kind of BBX.
And I think, no one can match the know-how of the brand in doing this kind of radios.
And only imagine that almost of the internal components were built by matsu****a. You can manage the quality at the level you want.

henrytai - 2008-11-24 21:34

i think it's serious that you guys MUST compare your bbx with other's if they hv the same model(testing face to face) Coz these old eletric are all in difference working condition
due to age...
i decided to let my bigben go before...
but after cleaning the switches and comparing two bigbens, they sound exactly not the same
RBJ, Please take your 7700 to visit Dr.Ramon and hv a "bodycheck" to see is there any aged parts should be replace
yeah, i wanna sell mine... but it's the point that i dun want any of you wasting yours.
nowadays, bbx is not easy to find...so dun let it go before your know it really doesn't fits you

get yours recapped man it will make a huge difference to the sound in a good way i am betting. i think alot of the higher end old old boomers could benefit from recapping at this point in time.

i think that it has a really huge tansformer in it wich is part of its sound.
also it was high end gear in it time.
money.
i really love that boombox.

reli - 2008-11-24 22:51

what is recapping?

henrytai - 2008-11-25 00:36

i think he means replacing the capacitors
i dun know how to do tha but i know it helps~~
coz those capacitors may dry after years

billpc55 - 2008-11-25 07:59

yeah i dunno. i mean i kind of have the opinion that many boomboxes now need to be recapped. the higher end ones i dont think for a second perform properly unless they have been recapped.

masterblaster84 - 2008-11-25 10:24

I agree that most of these old boomers probably need to be recapped to restore their true glory. I expect a lot of the differing opinions on performance of the same model boxes is because of bad or degraded capacitors. Recapping can be a slow process but the payoff can be big.

billpc55 - 2008-11-25 16:31

i have never recapped one of the booboxes. but every single piece of pro audio gear i have had recapped from guitar amps to analog synths have sounded far far far better after they were recapped.
i dont know i mean i really think that big national would most likely need its caps replaced once its reached this age in order for it to live up to its full glory.

blasterpunk - 2008-11-25 16:36

Nice Boombox! Bring it to my roof! Big Grin

henrytai - 2008-11-26 09:50
