not sure what to make of this post kid Confused but that sony certainly does,nt do anything for nostalgia No No but still interesting read Wink

master.z - 2010-05-19 13:40

Did anybody read the description by the tech author?
Although it looks like a nice high end unit,
A show of hands, who would carry that on their shoulder?

Why does the writer think this is a ghettoblaster. What the hell does he mean by "fit in". Like it's a sin to listen to tapes?

You know what. I bet dude has never seen a real blaster in his sad life.
It all makes sense!
Keep listening to your music through your cell phone speaker jack a$$!LOL.

monolithic - 2010-05-19 15:43

That's a house box, plain and simple,... and the only time it should be "carried" anywhere is to move it from room to room. Wink

Amen to that! I Agree

lav.loo - 2010-05-19 16:57

ye well said guys that about sums it up Nod Yes although to be honest MONO i would,nt even have it in my house, it would be a sin to look at it and a waste of electric powering it up, having said that after looking at it the weedy thing would probably power up on a pencil battery Laugh Out Loud

driptip - 2010-05-19 17:03

thats definately a 2010 boombox.

davebush - 2010-05-19 23:11

I Agree

house box for the kitchen

terry - 2010-05-19 23:45

It's like Bruce Lee's cousin, Ug Lee.

viennasound - 2010-05-20 01:36

Maybe the last, but one of the ugliest.. Leaving

drew - 2010-05-20 04:29

I don't know....you take a chance of being pelted with stones if you walk down the street with that one !

I personally like the high end Sony's from 1973-83.....CF-580, CFS-F5, etc.

I know a lot of BBX collectors don't like Sony's, but their early units had some great quality - one of the few BBX manufactures to make their own transistors and the only company to have a cassette recorder chosen to go into space on an Apollo mission...now thats cool!

monolithic - 2010-05-20 14:03

I Agree I think this Sony is the classiest box they ever made...

Sadly, the only thing the old ZILBA'P shares with that new box is the woodgrain accents. Frown

neat box mono looks good with speaker covers off.
i have to disagree on it being the best sony ever made though, personally i prefer the cfs 99 with all the colours Wink

adespin - 2010-05-20 14:16

Oh i don't know, i think it has something about it, a certain charm. Roll Eyes

NO!! I'm winding you all up, even i wouldn't be seen dead with it Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud

or would i Wink

I didn't say it was the best, I said it was the classiest. Cool Wish it's sound was as good as its looks tho...

lav.loo - 2010-05-20 15:22

sorry MONO my mistake Nod Yes misread your post.
ye now i do agree probably is the classiest looking sony Nod Yes they do sound c**p thow most sony,s, also i think sony never was a real street machine, i think they was more of a home radio Wink

monolithic - 2010-05-20 15:57

I Agree That box in particular IS NOT for the streets. A week or so outside and the woodgrain will be in bad shape and the grille cloth torn or full of holes. Frown

It's a nice high end house box tho. The cassette door mechanism makes a sound I've never heard on any other boombox... When you hit the eject button or push the door in, it sounds like it's motor driven. Cool

lav.loo - 2010-05-20 16:07

iv,e never heard of that either MONO No No
sounds a pretty cool feature thow.
and ye i agree about the street thing on that particular box Nod Yes it reminds me of a panasonic model with the woodgrain panels, i think the model is an RX7000, or 7200 defo made for in house and would look great in a study room or something Wink

driptip - 2010-05-21 07:28

apart from monolithic's nice sony, i really love the d-7 this one has digital tunner that you handle with the regular knob, i think this is a really cool feature

lav.loo - 2010-05-21 12:43

yes that,s also a cool feature dt Nod Yes very unusual to have a digital tuner with a regular knob, never seen or heard of that one before, nice Big Grin Wink

Sony had some cool and innovative features... I like the hidden cassette function buttons. Cool

I'm one of those pre 1978 BBX collectors, always looking for early stuff. I still think Sony had one of the first intigrated portables which came to be known as the Boombox - the CF-550 of 1971. The post 1978 models had many more features and bigger sound, but materials and construction was so nice on early Sony's.

Big fan of the CF-580 My article -www.antiqueradio.com/Dec09_Hayden_SonyCF580.html
