Sharp cd boombox

ash25 - 2010-11-30 19:12

I got home late from work today about 8:30pm and was taking the trash out when I noticed the neighbor had what looked like a shelf system sitting out, but after going over to see it I realised it was a boombox. It is a cd boombox, Sharp GX-CD561 BK. Here is the bad news, its been raining all day here and the boombox was probably out for at least 2 to 3 hours in the rain. The antenna is perfect and the cord could always be used. My question is, what should I do now? How do I go about seeing if this works, like leave it dry out for a week or 2 before plugging it in? Or do you think that once it was exposed to the rain for that long is there no hope of it ever playing again. Plus it prettyy nice and hate to see it go in the junk even if it is a cd player. Dont want ot ruin it by plugging it in too early and dont want to get zapped cause it wet inside. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?

hey ash25, i would let it dry for like a week, if possible open it up and let a fan hit the inside of it.

it may well survive that fresh water rain
or --hope so Smile

It should be ok,just be sure to let it dry out really really well before you try powering up Ash.
Otherwise it could short out something like the power supply

isolator42 - 2010-12-01 07:18

yup, agreed. If no power was applied while wet, & it's completely dry before you power it up, it should be as OK (well, as OK as it was when it was first put out in the rain Smile ).

Got a pic?

Put it in the airing cupboard - that will take any water out of it for a week !

ash25 - 2010-12-01 16:06

Hey guys thanks for all the help. I will check in to give you the results. Peace.

I can't find that model number anywhere. Is it a boombox with detatchable speakers, or a modern 'egg' shaped CD boombox?

I bought a Sanyo M9930 which had been rained on for quite a few hours. When I picked it up, water poured from the speaker grilles. I wanted it that much, I took it home, opened it up, and let it dry out thoroughly before giving it a complete detail clean. It still works and looks great!

Yeah Retro, it is a boombox with detachable speakers. I am still waiting for he right time to plug this in and see if it powers up. Dont want to rush into it so a few more days I will wait and see what happens.

Let the backside open for a better drying.
Did the same on my RADIOTONE mini, then it worked fine again. Smile
