Lasonic 920T with real tweets!

jovie - 2008-09-09 20:23

Thanks to Sinister and the shop,my 920T now has a proper 2-way speaker system. As some of you know, the "T" version of the 920 was manufactured with fake plastic tweeters just for show. This may have been a cost cutting measure to enable the inclusion of it's second tape deck. Both these boxes are of pretty much identical specs and dimensions otherwise though there are some obvious cosmetic differences.Sinister was kind enough to provide me with a set of working tweeters from a standard 920 along with some HF capacitors. My tech guy ran these off each of my "T"s woofers. The installer tells me these tweeters were a perfect fit which shouldn't be any surprise.WOW,this thing sounds good Eek !The highs are strong and so much more present. The bass is also very impressive now! This just may be the only 920T in the world with real working tweeters. Thanks again Sinister!I've been wanting to do this for a while. It was well worth the wait!

Wow Jovie this is terrific for those Lasonic fans. Yours should be considered into the BB museum as the first to have actual functioning tweeters. Nod Yes

Way to go Jovie! Big Grin I love speaker mods or improvements. To me (at least) I think it increases the appeal and value of a box when you get more out of it and maintain it's originality. Nod Yes

Wow! That's brilliant!
I'm convinced many radios had their amps and such designed to a much higher spec than their speakers allow due to cutting the costs on the final unit, this just proves it further.

How much do these tweeters cost as parts? I've got a couple of ideas...

Rock On.

ford93-anyone who loves boomboxes would be honored to be included in the museum. Its really too bad it is not being updated anymore. It could be included in the database as a modded box.Of course that would be up to Jens. Thanks for the comments Smile

oldskool69-I agree with you about this actually increasing a boxes value.I lucked out that the "T" is the same as a standard 920 with the exception of the fake tweeters.Everything was pretty much in place to take advantage of this fact to get increased performance. Its my understanding that the "T" is a fairly rare box as not so many were produced. Now I'm assuming my "T"s performance to match the classic 920 model.

Gluecifer-The tweeters came from Sinister.I'm guessing he had pulled them from a parts box.I'm not quite sure if there are comparable ones currently available of the correctly diameter and ohm rating. If there is they certainly are not available in red. This was an easy mod as I was simply adding something to my box that Lasonic had originally taken out (probably to cut costs). This made for a very straight forward and simple operation.
