A new high end Boombox ?

Who makes a 'good' unit, puts out a healthy amount of audio . I realize a 21st centry boombox would be cd or an ipod dock type, and not cassette.

I suspect they boys would say Kaboom.

Go for a JVC Kaboom if you don't mind the design. Classic versions are RV-B70, RV-B90, RV-B99 and RV-B200 (with a simple drum machine LOL)

There's a model called RD-HA3B, which also features good amplifiers and a different design. It doesn't really look cool to me and i haven't heard it yet, but the tech specs are good and it still runs on 10 D-cells...

I don't know a current Panasonic, Philips or Sony model that's worth mentioning. Offbrand stuff usually disappoints. Most manufactorers put their efforts in ipod dock sound systems.

Bose's SoundDock Portable has great sound
especially for its size but its pricey(300+).
BTW, there's no tuner.

If you need it portable & able to run on batteries, the Kaboom is your best bet for a brand new boombox.

...that said, can anyone find anyone selling a Kaboom with any in stock?

I agree ,the kaboom is a good choice
(unfortunately weak fm reception)

Panasonic RX-ES series
Sony PDW series

All equipped with digital tuner/cd/cassette. Some support aux (mp3/ipod, etc.) input.

Some of the Panasonics feature dual BTL amps, (very loud, without distortion). Sony features switchable power-drive woofer system for impressive low bass.

They may seem a bit pricey, but then again, you really do get what you pay for. These are not to be confused with the really cheap stuff on the market these days...they really are well built, quality products, that deliver the goods.

I can vouche for the Kaboom's great sound. I have an RV-DP100, with the drum pads.

It is currently doing duty as my computer soundsytem's subwoofer, and doing it quite well!
