Toshiba RT-???? - 1987

mrfox - 2009-06-12 03:06

Hi There,
I'm new here, so I hope you don't mind me asking for your help ?.
I've been trying to track down a boombox I bought in 1987, but I'm having trouble pinning down the exact model. I bought it from Argos in May 1987 and it could very well be the Toshiba RT-7025 model. Everything about seems almost identical to the one I had, but there's one nagging doubt that's preventing me from accepting this : The pictures I see of the RT-7025 have a sound selecter switch that can choose between MONO, STEREO and STEREO WIDE....but I'm almost sure mine had MONO, STEREO and SUPER STEREO. Maybe my memory is letting me down and I'm getting confused in my old age ?!!!.
Can anyone help ?. Was the next model RT-7026, and was that the one I had ?. Or did I actually have a slighty more updated RT-7025 model ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello MrFox,

Welcome here.

I don't know much about your Toshiba boombox.
I'm sure that our moderator "Tpr" will help you regarding your "confusion" Big Grin and you will be in position to reunited with your RT very soon.

Hi Mr Fox, & welcome to s2g from me also.

That different naming of the switches is a possibility. Manufacturers would change some switch names, etc. depending on which country the boombox was sold.

Any more detail you can remember about the boombox will help. The RT-7025 is a 3pc (detatchable speakers). Did the speakers detach from the one you're looking for?
Also stuff like colour, shape of speaker grilles, where the buttons are, how many tape decks, did it have a Graphic Equaliser, that sort of thing...

Here's a pic of the RT-7025 in red which might help... Smile

Hi There,
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and for the help. It's definitely the RT-7025, I guess that, as has been said, that maybe some had " Stereo Wide " and some had " Super Stereo ".
I do miss it !!. It went everywhere with me ( and my mates ), holidays, camping etc. Unfortunately on one camping trip, while banging out the tunes, and while we were having a " few " beers, we over did it on the camp fire. The fire was going a treat, but when the sounds stopped we realised the box had been too close...and had melted !!!.
So my next question....I know where I can get one, but apparently the tape player doesn't work...the seller suggests the belt needs replacing ??. Is this an easy job...or should I steer clear of it ??

MrFox, -TAKE IT-. Nod Yes

In most cases the belt needs to replace.
If you are inexperienced in that operation, just bring them to the nearest electronic service and they will do that easy and fast.

That Tosh will have a pretty simple deck, so cleaning it up & re-belting should be fairly easy if you know what you're doing.
Good luck! Smile
