Fisher PH492 - any good?

ao - 2012-12-06 07:18

I was curious, the Fisher PH492, does anyone have one and how do they rate?

not had the pleasure,  but if it sounds as good as its looks has to be a winner

i have one and the sound is good, not like crazy loud!!

very high quality unit overall. soft touch buttons, and very heavy.

WAIT --till you see a decent deal on the fisher #480...

same size as the 492 --a bit less fancy looking -

but a good step up in sound quality

Agreed, I have both, I prefer the build and looks of the PH492, and the sound of the PH480K. The 492 sounds fine, but there seems to be more of a bass roll off.

I agree. I also have both the 480 and 492 and love them. I believe more reason for sound differences is because the 492 has only 5 band EQ but 480 has separate Bass, Treble and super bass switch !!!

i dont have the 480 but i believe it is 4 ohms as the 490, 492 are 8 ohm speakers.

could that be the reason why the 480 kicks harder?

Here I did a comparison YouTube video... http://youtu.be/HFlIh87JlUM

id love one of these, but due to the confines of the uk they are as rare as hens teeth over here

baddboybill - 2012-12-08 10:42

I believe the 490 model was European ......

thafuzz - 2012-12-08 10:54

I too can attest to the sound quality of the 492. I have the trilogy (PH490,490&492). My 480 is very loud and the bass is just a Tad "punchier" than My 490 & 492. All three are equally as Loud and quality made. Make no mistake, the other two are still bassy,  just the 480, with it's 'Super bass' button gives it a bit extra.

Never heard those fisher boxes before....and remember them i think being sold in Sears back in the day...i agree i like the looks of the 492 as well...Grand Master flash had one...and the Beastie boys i believe owned the 480

pioneer - 2012-12-08 16:47

It prooly sound's as mean as it look's and yeh i remember THAFUZZ with his beautiful Fisher's in all thier astounding glory, gonna ask santa for one ...or Major Credit card..(lol)

driptip - 2012-12-08 16:52

The 492 is the better looking of the bunch, imo

baddboybill - 2012-12-08 17:06

I agree 492 has weighted tuner, tuner meter, lighted tuner. And Chrome dust caps on speakers unlike 490 which has black caps!!!

deech - 2012-12-09 07:59

I presume they are the same. The 490 for the European taste (less bling). The 492 for the US/international market (more bling).

I have one and it's a very nice box... Sounds very high end but lacks bass!!
Weighs a ton!!
