THE LONGEST YARD - Kitchen BBX

jt - 2008-02-22 12:55

What mfgr/model is this box?

This shot is from the remake of THE LONGEST YARD starring Adam Sandler as the bad boy QB that gets sent to jail.

The scene is a group of inmates that are listening to the big football game on the radio while working in the kitchen.

To me this looks like a lower-end, mid size Panasonic, but its hard to see details due to the fact that I took the pictures of my TV screen with the image paused.

Jens your so fast on the draw I usually can't even get my gun out of the holster. Wink

Nice work though, you've answered more questions than I can count. Smile

I think we should think about starting a post called "Stump The Jens". It would be like the old ESPN show "Stump the Schwab" where you would give a sports question he could not answer. Our mission would be to do it with boomboxes.Laugh Out Loud

LOL, yea... Great idea Oldskool! Jens, are you up to the task?

I'm on a mission now! I'm going to keep a camera close to the TV specifically to snap BBX shots and make it a point to try to STUMP JENS (AKA: The BBX Info-Master)

Is it just me, or have there been lots of boomboxes showing up in commercials or shows in the last year or so? Immediately coming to mind, there's that Visa commercial with a bunch of breakdancers popin' n' lockin' in a store (albeit with a bunch of fake-looking boomers) and I seem to remember a recent McDonalds commercial, too...

I just realized what a stupid question this is...

I have the G.E. 3-5252 that appears to be the same radio without the analog V.U..It's nice and heavy for it's small size and very loud and clean sounding. My Realistic Scr-25 looks very similar but is plasticy, featherweight, and anemic sounding by comparison.I suppose it's all in the details.

tpr - 2008-02-26 09:54

ah! Jovie do you mean this one?

jovie - 2008-02-27 09:41

No,Mine looks like a slightly later model. It's not as similar as I may have indicated.Nevertheless,it has a nice powerful clear sound and is surprisingly loud.Looking at the 5252 in the database 2.0,I only see one 5252 that looks like mine. Most pictures show this boombox having four toggle switches on the units top mounted control panel to its right hand side.Though not visible in my picture,my version only has three (labeled "Function","Mode","Control").Also the FM Stereo light on mine is on the left hand side instead of on the right.Mine is missing the "Record Mode" and "Batteries" leds also.Notice mine is the "C" version of this model number.

ah I see -thanks for clearing ol`blastaficionado!

but I never saw a rea scr25(under this name)

jovie - 2008-02-27 15:43

To clarify, the Realistic SCR-25 I am referring has no relation (that I am aware of) to the G.E. 3-5252 pictured above.I was merely using it to show its similarity to the G.E. 3-5252 for size, form factor, and power input rating. It seems strange to me that there would be such a difference in output and quality of sound. The G.E. is so much louder and cleaner sounding. The difference is also apparent with the contrast in the weight of the two units to one another. The Realistic feels as though it might be totally hollow! Here is a picture of my Realistic SCR-25 I am referring to.It's not in my database 2.0:

This I say in light of the fact that G.E. and Realistic have shared designs before.

tpr - 2008-02-27 22:22

wow ! and it wasn`t in the 3.0 either !

oh-

thanks for sharing Wink
