Never Say Never Again - not an M70

isolator42 - 2009-01-14 07:55

Watching the Doovdé of this one last night - not the best Bond movie ever, not even a "real" one, in fact, but that Red Renault 5 Turbo 2 is just wonderful...

Anyway, the boombox that Largo leaves playing when he abandons his squeeze (Kim Basinger) isn't an JVC RC-M70 as previously supposed. The tweeters are different, it's not big enough & it only has one antenna (which he extends).
It a 575 if I'm any judge:

Otherwise maybe an RC-M50?
Nah, it's a 575.

I think it's had the JVC logo removed.
Anyone get a screengrab of it?
I'll try tonight if I can...

Ahhhh.... the "Connery comes back and does a remake of Thunderball" Bond movie! I'll have to watch that movie again and pay closer attention to that part.

I know it wasn't technically part of the official Bond legacy, but it was entertaining enough. It was good to see him come back and do a Bond movie again. I'd like to see him do one now, like he's coming out of retirement to put it to Blofeld's offspring or something along those lines. And maybe they can work it it to have him hook up with the character Jane Seymour played in Live and Let Die!!! Yea, and maybe Jaws can make an appearance, too! Big Grin

Doovdé haha! Good to see another phonejacker fan. I think theres a Lasonic 975 in George Agadegwengo's 'office' in one ep.

On the same tip, has anyone mentioned the actual 'ghetto-blaster' Q shows Bond in one of the movies? Basically a ghettoblaster with an RPG inside it, for true 'on shoulder' performance. I think it was in one of the Dalton ones possibly.

Rock On.

In the James Bond film The Living Daylights (1987), during the customary trip into Q's workshop, loud music is heard emanating from a large portable stereo carried on the shoulder of a technician. A missile then fires from the end of the stereo at a human dummy target, which is destroyed by the resulting explosion. Q turns to Bond and says, "It's something we're developing for the Americans. It's called a ghettoblaster."

I`m still looking for the thread - years ago we had this theme and a result with pictures ....

My WinXP PC at home won't screengrab Doovdé... no such problems with Vista:

Now that's an RC-575 Smile

Attention to detail:
You can see there is a tape in it & the play button is pressed.
God knows why he put up the antenna though...

Now I'm wondering whether the Philips in A View To A Kill Living Daylights might be the version without the CD player with a big woofer in it's place...

I shall have to see... Smile

tpr - 2009-01-15 09:29

...and for an encore, here's the big Philips D8734 from A View To a Kill:

So that's the Bond movie boomboxes all done together. Let me know if any more pop up across the 21 (I think?) movies... Smile

Somehow, this old idea (the wind-up phone call) seems fresh as a daisy on this show. Laugh-out-loud funny Smile
