Best Buy says "DUMP your Boom box for rock speakers"

wombat - 2009-06-01 18:29

In my area (Wisconsin,USA), Best Buy store is running an ad for father's day, dump his vintage, high quality boom box and buy him some crappy fake rock speakers for his outdoor BBQ. No kidding. Nightmare if you ask me. They don't explain where the music originates... The BB appears to be a decent FISHER(?) unit. I'm sure if one of you guys see it you could positively I.D. it. Sorry, no way I can post a link for it.

sinister - 2009-06-01 20:51

do you have a scan of the ad. post it up here

transwave5000 - 2009-06-01 22:40

I was looking on the web about this.
I think its a re-cycling thing.
Radio Shack is doing a re-cycling thing too.
Bring in your old electronic stuff for gift certificats.

i gotta bunch of old tape decks i could bring in Big Grin

wombat - 2009-06-05 21:48

Here's the link to the web site--but this does NOT show Dad's cool vintage B box. Maybe I could find that, but this is best I can do at this time. Go down to employee, Jazmin.

Chuck that stupid rock, bust out the Boomer and throw the kids outa the home. Big Grin Wink

This ad is also all over the radio too...I had the pleasure (wrong word) of checking out these "rock" speakers, and they are junk. Any discerning father would either return them for store credit, or smack his kid upside the head and ask "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?"..Best Buy will be pushing these pretty hard until at least Father's Day on the 21st. Then, after that, I hope they realise that they are deceiving the public by selling crap (yeah right), but I can dream, can't I?

Laugh Out Loud Yeah right! That is the world we live in, MAXIMIZE profit by selling crap for far more than it's worth. BB only wants to seperate you from your money and they are trying pretty hard with this one. My guess is they bought a crap load of these rocks really cheap and they are trying to dump them on the uneducated masses.

bendycat - 2009-06-08 11:23

yer then just watch as all these old crap boxes suddenly hit ebay as "cool old 80 boom box worth a fortune scam" they shift there r(c)ock speackers and cash in on old ghetto blasters Roll Eyes Laugh Out Loud

or our treasures will be crushed just for cheep tat to be floodedd out there Roll Eyes

gagaeyes - 2009-06-09 09:56

I was at best buy over the weekend...the only thing thats cool that they have is the flat screen tv''s. I checked out they''re boomboxes...all second rate stuff...is nothing compares to what we come across in this forum , ebay, etc. Even the home sound systems are laughable compare to the old school home systems we come across or remember in the good ol'' days...rms today compare to rms old days...big block ford shelby hp and torque compare to a toyota camry v6 hp and torque

master.z - 2009-06-09 22:14

Yeah that comercial is not right.

I just want to slap that young sales chick and the wifey upside their heads in the comercial. Hiding "the old boombox" in the closet. WTF! I bet the husband was like " What the f@ck you do with my ghettoblaster b!tch!!! Take them damn rocks back to the dealer you dumb @^@%^@%U!!!

Oh and yeah it's a JVC. Big Grin

dumpstermyass - 2009-06-10 08:09

Hey Guys,

I finally saw that commercial...I figured it would be some dumb story about how the chick in the commercial (who was hot by the way) saved the day in some way, and then I heard the complaint about the old boom box...

I yelled when I saw that commercial...The thing had Shortwave on it! And the wife hides it in a closet! WTF MAN?

"Honey, where's my boombox?"

"Forget the boombox, here's some rocks"

I bet that went over well Mad

71spud - 2009-06-10 11:28

I saw this too last weekend. My wife and I were watching TV Saturday night and a Best Buy ad came on. Some BB chick was selling outdoor "rock" speakers. Really cheap ones that looked nothing like rocks (I sell real good ones so I am biased). The theme of the ad was that "Dad" could get with it and "put away that old boombox" in exchange for these "rocks" when he is outside.. They showed the BBX in question and some female hands taking and putting the BBX away in a cupboard. It happened to be a mint condition JVC PC-55!!! I turned to my wife and said that the boombox that they were putting away (by now she can "relate" to the ad and is giving me the *eye*) was worth about $400, twice what the rocks were worth and that it would sound a lot better.

71spud - 2009-06-10 11:32

On a somewhat related note...
Best Buy Boombox Guy

kvmoore - 2009-06-10 12:54

Yeah. I saw that Best-Buy T.V. commercial too. "Put away the old boombox" is just their sales pitch. The keyword being "OLD." Just because it's old doesn't mean it's bad. The makers of that commercial probably knew good and well that JVC probably sounds 10 times better than the rock speakers they are trying to sell. However, they are trying to promote the rock speakers to make a buck. People will do anything to sell a product these days. If you notice, they never really compare the sound quality of the old boombox to the rock speakers or mention anything whatsoever about the "sound quality" of the rock speakers, only where the sound is coming from. That in itself is enough to raise addition questions to whether or not the rock speakers are any good.

Here is the video. Watch the girl grimace as she says "old boombox". If you could see me, you would see me grimace as she says "Insignia rock speakers". Kind of gives new meaning to the phrase "rock music".

Trade in your old-skool quality for fecalware.

Please....

tpr - 2009-06-17 06:39

.........from that video I`ll get a pnigerophobia

master.z - 2009-06-18 12:54

Here are some stills from the comercial.
It's not a PC 5 or 55, it looks like one of those PC's that dont come apart in sections. So who knows which one???

Look at this dudes face, like lifting the box is a hassel or something. He should be one arming the MoFo, like a proud boomboxer would!!!
Looking at this pic, he deserves the rocks. Big Grin

gagaeyes - 2009-06-18 19:42

maybe the chic and the the guy should get those rock speakers thrown at their heads for ""stupidity"" Laugh Out LoudI just saw that commercial and it looks like a pc 150 or 200

isolator42 - 2009-06-19 09:25

She needs a good slap, she does.
..although to be fair, the spec on those speakers isn't the worst. A 6½" woofer & a tweeter in there too. If you *do* get some of these for father's day, you could stick 'em in the garden/yard & hook 'em up to a boomer with ext spkr conns, like an M90 Smile

Yeh, the boomer in the ad is a PC-150... with the volume knob missing I see.
(the 200 has an auto reverse deck with a round bit on the tape door that isn't on this one).

......now there is an idea there isolator...maybe they can try to sell those things in their next ad... Wink

71spud - 2009-07-01 16:36

Yeah, it is the PC-150... now that I see the video.. I was too much in shock the first time to make the right call on the model number.

macdude443 - 2009-07-02 23:46

That's it, I'm taking my M70 to my nearest Best Buy and asking them where I can trade it in for some crappy rock speakers. Seriously. I hate Best Buy and I don't care if I get banned forever.

The guy in the pic is such a wuss. Look at him having a hard time lifting the boombox onto the counter...The boomboxes that JVC made with the detachable components ARE heavy, but this guy is a total chicken-wing, golf-ball-shoulders, no build mook who would probably lose to a 5th grader in a fight...

The chick is kinda hot though, as I will reiterate again Smile
