I found these Maxell tapes still in their original packaging yesterday. Can someone tell me how old these might be?Also, are they any good as old tapes?

One says type 1
the othe says type 2
Not sure when they started using the 'type'
on cassettes but i think its around 1985.
So it cant be a very early 70's cassette.

Both superb tapes were very popular around 1985. The XLII (shown) and the more refined XLII-S were (and still are) my favourites. Maxell tapes I made back in the eighties still sound as if I recorded them only yesterday.

Very nice find Jovie.

I've got a couple of those gold XLII tapes, and mine also still sound good and could quite happily be re-used if required I'm sure.

As a matter of fact, I just finished up listening to a home-made remix of EU's Da Butt on one of these very cassettes Maxell XL II. This recording was from vinyl, and made in 1987.

Beautiful!
