Wanted: Realistic Modulaire 2200 or silver Sanyo C-40

kvmoore - 2008-04-07 17:16

I'm looking for a mint or near mint Realistic Modulaire 2200 or silver Sanyo C-40 boombox in fully working condition. I currently have a Modulaire 2200 that I had since I was a kid and grew up with but it's not in the best working or cosmetic condition, so I'm looking for a mint one specifically for the purpose of my collection so I can preserve it. These seem rare and hard to find. Therefore, if anyone here has one for sale, please let me know. A private message (PM) would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks Oldskool69, but I already have a Modulaire 2250:

That's the same one that's in my avatar. It's also a great box too by the way.

Yup!! It's a great quality box--isn't it?

By my surprise, the one in that ebay auction just went for $143.56 plus shipping!!!!!!!! I didn't pay anywhere near that for mine.

I've noticed I can find Modulaire 2250s every once-in-a-while on ebay. However, I can never find a Sanyo C-40 or Modulaire 2200 (a Sanyo C-40 clone). I found out the C-40 came in both silver and black. I'd prefer the silver, if I can find one.

I Agree Yep,i saw that,143.56,NUTS! Razz
I Pd 9.99 plus shipping for mine on ebay, total was like $27-28 that was like 18 mths ago, amazing how these bbxs have gone up on ebay! Roll Eyes

Wow, you got one heck of a sweet deal. I got mines for about $51 + $19 shipping which ended up being around $70 overall which isn't too bad. And here's the big thing. I just bought it back in February, so I've only had it a couple of months. So yeah, It is certainly amazing how bbxs sky-rocket in value on ebay!!!

Hahaha just like classic cars.

Darn!!!! After reading the auction listing, tape decks don't work. Just like on mine's. Otherwise it's perfect.

Direct from the description:

"The tape deck (s) do not work. They act as if they want to work and they just won't move. More than likely need new belts. "

I've been reading all of the time on ebay as well as on this forum about cassette decks on vintage boomboxes failing because of the belts and/or motor. Are the decks on this C40 an easy fix? The decks on mine (Realistic Modulaire 2200) have the same problem. The first symptom of this problem when it started was I could hear the motor but the decks would not move when pressing play and they would not fast forward or rewind. Hence the "They act as if they want to work and they just won't move" quote. Now however, I no longer hear the motor when pressing play. The decks are just dead.

I'm still grabbing this though as long as price doesn't become outrageous. It's in better cosmetic shape than mines with no fading chrome or broken handle. Thus, I can use the line in for CD/MP3. Not to mention they are extremely hard to find. If the decks could be easily fixed then that would be a big plus.

Thanks again.

kvmoore even if you find an old boomer with working tape decks they likely won't work for more than a few years if they have the original belts. Your probably looking at a belt replacement soon whether you deal with yours or buy another one, that's just a fact of these boxes. I can't comment on the ease of replacing belts on a C40 since I've never tackled that model. One thing is don't try to run the deck if you don't hear anything, the belt could be melted around the motor keeping it from moving and you don't want to burn it up.

Good luck, I hope you get the C40 and get it fixed up.

Thanks. I'll try to win it and hopefully find someone who can work on it.
