Capstan for M90 JVC_FLOYD please help

eric - 2008-06-14 05:32

Hello everyone. I hate to make my first post a request for parts but I am stuck and I need help. I have a bent capstan in a jvc m90. It looks straight but you can tell when sliding it into the shaft it is not (wobbles pretty bad when turning also). I am hoping jvc_floyd or someone may have a trashed deck that is not saveable that I could buy a part from. Or if I could use another part from any other deck jvc or not. The capstan is just pressed into the flywheel and pops out. The Capstan seems to be larger for this JVC compared to any other unit I have. I talked to kittmaster last night and he said to give it a go here. Any help is appreciated. I want to show you all my collection once I get them running (2 more to go).

hi there ,well thats a tough one ,m90 deck parts are so hard to find just because nobody parts out an m90 that ive ever seen ,i think your only option at this point is to try to straighten the shaft out if possible,i know thats not an easy thing to do ,what you need is a straight edge to hold up to it to see exactly were the bend is then using a vise and two blocks of wood try to slowly bend it a little at a time ,if you have a propane torch to heat it with it makes it alot easier ,you just have to be sure its straight before putting it back in the box ,i wish i could be more help but that part is going to be real hard to replace so just work with what you got and see where it goes.

I had a feeling about it being hard to find. I have tried to straighten it, but will try the 2 blocks of wood. Kicker is..it really does not look bad. I was thinking maybe it was the shaft hole itself being wore out but if you put the capstan in from the top side, after you get past the bad spot (bend) on the capstan it turns fine. So I think it is bent at the tip (more towards the end by the roller). Does the M60 have the same flywheel/capstan set up? It looks like it has 2 motors. Thanks JVC_Floyd for your response.

im not sure about the m60 i never owned one it never really excited me that much .i know it shares a few parts with the m90 and i think most of them are in the cassette deck portion but its hard to say exactly which ones ,its a good gamble if you could find an m60 or an m80 for cheap but you know how that goes .

kittmaster - 2008-06-14 07:31

I think a 60 or 80 or any jvc with electronic mechs may be similiar.....thats what I directed him to you.

Maybe get lucky, who knows

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-14 08:54

chris do you think that pc 550 might have the same part?

kittmaster - 2008-06-14 09:06

What you really need is an image of the capstan and the flywheel to be sure.....actually I have my spare, I'll see if I can get a picture out of it without taking it apart. Hopefully that will save a lot of issues

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-14 09:12

ok that would help alot.

I may have one but i would need enough people interested in parts so i can scrap the m90.

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-14 09:57

whatever you do tim save me that case bro even if its empty please.unless its to big to ship.tim if you do part it out i need a eject button/ i'm trying to help find one.i dont want to see an m90 busted up but it doesnt belong to me so its outta my hands lol.

Wish you had somw money to pay for it but you havn't floyd Frown nobody is interested in my m90 so my only option is selling it for parts.

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-14 10:07

yeah i know , paying customers are a great boost the sale lol.man if only there was a way to post it ,it probably would have been gone long ago.even if you sold it to a uk member.

Don't need to sell or scrap the m90 now floyd. it looks like eggs are more disirable Laugh Out Loud i just sold one bro i now have the money for the box im after Smile.

eric - 2008-06-14 14:57

kittmaster I will post pictures of what I need, I hate to have you break down your box for my part...thats very nice of you to offer. rimmer36 If you are interested in parting out send me a pm with your price for what you would like weather it be just the capstan or the deck or the whole unit itself. Maybe we could work something out Smile Thanks guys I'll be in and out most of the weekend and I left the part with an antique audio guy to see what he could do...when I get it back I will post some pictures....maybe another deck will do also there is an m60 I'm going to bid on...it's worth a shot.

Hi eric i belive an m80 and m60 share the same part you are looking for.

If not you could possibly remove the bar from the capstan and replace it with another of a different box, i have done this sucessfully in the past.

I am not parting out my unit now sorry as i dont think there would be enough people in line for parts for me to recoup my origional asking price wich was £250 but my plan of action is a good sugestion as i have done it successfully in the past good luck.
