Hey Brummie,the 3D80 and 3D88 turn up for sale on ebay all the time,they are quite a common radio,it should'nt be to difficult to find one,i'm sure there is one or 2 on there now.i have owned a few over the years,they are a nice box.

yup, they pop up on eBay frequently. I Hitachi 3D nut & I follow 3Ds on eBay. You'll get a good fully working one for £30-40, easy.

Don't pay more, they're just not sought-after enough to be worth any more.

The 3D80 & 3D88 are basically the same machine. I have both & they sound indistinguishable from each other. Loads of thump, not the very best outright sound quality, but it's a boombox, so who cares? especially when it's this loud 

The 3D80 came first (late 80s-early 90s), the 3D88 following on (early-mid 90s), adding auto-reverse on 1 tape deck.

- 3D80 is black with fake tweeters, Hitachi badge at bottom right & the grille says"3D SUPER WOOFER TWIN DRIVE"

- 3D88 is dark grey with 'feet', Hitachi badge at bottom centre & the grille says "3D BASS, SUPER WOOFER, TWIN DRIVE"

Top one would be favourite for me, but the price is rising, as it looks like a really good one.

Bottom one looks like it'll be fine after a clean-up.
