Searching Outdoor Boombox

kusimien - 2012-03-08 03:01

Hey Guys,

i hope to be writing in the right forum.

So I needed new Speakers for outdoor activities, and i got into the whole Boombox thing.

As it appears its hard to get informations concerning this topic.

Im searching for a Boombox which goes to a high volume, doesnt have to have the best acoustic, tho. And does have a Battery reach for about 2,3 hours.

There are two Boomboxes "JVC Victor RC-W3LD" and "Hitachi trk-3d2", I got in my mind.

Maybe somebody is able to say if one of them is aceptable.

Best regards.

Don't know about the boxes you mentioned but depending on your needs, Sony is still producing an outdoor boombox, very rugged, air tight CD slot, etc. pp.

The Hitachi 3D2 goes pretty loud (so long as you back off the bass a bit - that smaller woofer can't handle it) & the batteries will last ages. Be aware however, if you plan to run an iPod or similar through it, it doesn't have proper aux-in.

Thanks for the reply.

the Sony sounds good, i didnt stated my need properly, tho.

The fact is that i need speakers, to take on basketball courts, ive got a little "Logitech Pure wifi anywhere", but it doesnt forfill my expactations.

And after getting into it, i really want to get an original boombox know, i think its worth keeping them alive.

@isolator42:

I heard that it got a chinch in? So it wont play a mp3 player/ipod?

What about connecting an ipod through an "adapter Cassette (jack plug)", dont know the proper translation, sorry bout that.

It's too long ago that I remember where the cable goes in to an adapter cassette but I think you might be out of luck. Those cassettes were designed for car radio systems but on a box you want to be able to close the lid.

Thanks for the quick replies. Its a Petty neat Forum, youve got here.
Congrats.

I decided to buy it anywhow, it will coast about 25 us Dollars.

isolator42 - 2012-03-12 07:47

True, to get line in with the 3D2 you can either press record on the tape deck, use a cassette adaptor (there should be enough room to close the door) or an FM transmitter.

However, if choosing a boombox & wanting to use line-in, surely it's better to pick one with dedicated line-in? Especially as there are so many out there.

My advice would be to find a one of these other Hitachi 3Ds (which have 1 or 2 full-size 6½" woofers): 3D8, 3D50, 3D60, 3D80, 3D88.

All have proper line in & will play damn loud with plenty of bass for ages on 8 d cells when using line-in.

...just my humble opinion, of course

kusimien - 2012-03-12 11:23

Thanks for your opinion.

Im searching for the Hitachis anyhow, kinda like their style.

What's a reasonable price for an 3D8?

jvc rv-b90 kaboom can bang on a bit

isolator42 - 2012-03-13 00:50

IMHO, £20-30 for a fully working 3D8 without too much cosmetic damage (scuffs, etc.). there are loads of 3Ds out there, so leave anything damaged or overpriced.

This is all IMHO, remember...

Also, KuSimien, check your 'Dialogs' (personal messages from s2g)

This little box looks interesting for outdoor as well....

I have two versions of Hitachi and JVC Victor RC W3 but is silver,two boxes sound great.

the right choice for you

kusimien - 2012-03-19 07:26

Hey,

so i got the 3D2 today, and ive gotta say, that im happy.

The Hitachi came with the Adapter Cassette in it, so i could plug my Iphone in right away.

It worked perfectly, and its got a pretty good sound and peak.

I may also plug in my iphone through the cd-line-in, the sound wont be so good as over the cassette directly, tho.

Im considering buying a Fm Transmitter, espacially thinking about, that the cassette might brake one day.

Im now about to buy a 3D8 for 25 euros, hopefully it'll work out.

Thank you for your comments, guys.

isolator42 - 2012-03-19 08:02

Now here's a guy with taste

IMHO, €25 for a 3D8 is a good deal if it's fully working & in reasonable cosmetic shape.

If you like the 3D2, you're sure to be impressed with the 3D8.

The 3D2s smaller 4" centre woofer runs out of puff when pushed, however the larger 6½" woofer in the 3D8 can really thump before it reaches it's limit.

Also the 3D8s proper aux-in removes any iPhone playing difficulties. Just remember to leave the iPhones internal EQ off...
