Sharp VZ2000 slider switches need

peat - 2012-11-05 23:59

Hi,

I'm after a complete set of switches (slider) for my vz2000. I'm currently running batteries as it will not run on power, is this an easy fix.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I'm in Australia.

Thanks,

Peat

hi Peat,

welcome on board. i wish i could help you but in fact you beat me on time as i was going to post the same request! so if anybody has 2 sets please send a double pm

Theres someone on Boomboxery who makes them.  I think they're in the US but will ship.  Can't remember their name but just do a search on the site.

As pretty much all VZ's are missing some I think you might struggle getting originals.

thanks so much, getting good replacement would be already an improvement, as i need to do some serious repair work...  but then i love the unit, so elegant and bluesy...

Missed your question about the power...whether its easy or not depends whats wrong with it   Could be a loose wire, dodgy contact, iffy switch, blown fuse, or a dead power supply...other more knowledgeable members could probably come up with a few more possibilities as well

What have you checked/cleaned etc?...and any other symptoms?

Oh and welcome to the forum!

Whats wrong with your VZ then Sal?

left channel is not working, right channel produces static sound and of course it is missing a few switches. luckily, cosmetically it's great  i am not able to repair it so i'll give it to a favorite technician of mine who's a genius repairer like you and so many people here. but he's a professional tv repairer, has a lot of work and is incredibly slow with my stuff. i am still waiting for two boxes i gave to him, the first one this summer which is also a "grail" by conventional standards. not by mine, as you already know-but still...  so i guess the vz will have to wait for some time in order to get serviced

northerner - 2012-11-06 08:16

I ain't no genius repairer...cack handed fettler is more me!

Was this VZ from the UK through the forum?...if so it was, as you say, cosmetically very good!   I'm on the look out for a VZ partly because I want a record deck box and partly because I want a tricky/challenging one to work on

Are the sliders for vz2500 the same as the sliders for vz2000? Just received my 2500 and...surprise...absolutely no sliders...not even one.

samovar - 2012-11-06 08:40

@Northerner

yes it was that one, very nice despite its issues

Member Bredgeo makes slides for the vz series of Sharp.

Thanks for the welcome....I haven't taken the back of yet as Im enjoying playing cassettes. I was hoping the problem is the fuse. Is it easy to get to? I still have to get a belt for the Turntable.

If its a fuse then they're normally easy to get to. Just get the back off and look for the power supply. Should be on a circuit board nearby

Nice...two VZ's. I'm assuming you've only just got the 2000 as it looks like you've not got round to cleaning it yet! Nice big box to start off a collection!!

Yeah all clean now......like the Vz3000 but the cassette deck stopped working, has abuzz through it when play is pushed.

northerner - 2012-11-06 14:38

Could be a perished belt, might have been holding on for a while then given up...not difficult to replace if you're up for a bit of dismantling

peat - 2012-11-07 01:03

Not sure if it's a belt as both reels turn. It sounds like a hum/buzz when a cassette is played!

northerner - 2012-11-07 02:55

No sound and just buzzing is normally down to switches/contacts needing cleaning with contact cleaner. But it was working before? Sounds like a dodgy connection...try wiggling various switches as it could be an iffy contact that needs some Servisol/Deoxit?

peat - 2012-11-07 20:17

Thanks, was working before. Will give it wiggle or two.
