Boombox Wanted

mtbed - 2013-01-20 13:21

Hello to all, I have just registered to this forum for information on boomboxes. I am 80's hip hop fan and now that I'm financially stable I would like to purchase a 80's boombox to listen to those tracks in they're full made glory!

I'm afraid I have exspensive taste and the bigger the better.

Anyone help?

Welcome to the forum!

It'll help if you say where you're based as there are members from all over the world

I'm in Leicester. Don't mind travelling as company diesel.

I don't know what to buy but I have a keen eye on something big

How much would one set me back?

lav.loo - 2013-01-20 13:36

a lot of cash mate, check the link below and then double or treble the price you see

welcome aboard,

plenty to choose from if your wanting a big box...if you dont mind paying the extra try and buy a fully functional unit thats been in good hands,

jvc m90s are too thin on the ground, theres plenty more big units with just as much appeal

Any suggestions, I can't justify that for my first box.

hi and welcome , a hitachi w55e its a fine unit .

dogtemple - 2013-01-20 13:50

try a sharp gf 9191 theyre awesome, fairly easy to find and cheap, under £200 usually.   an m90 will set you back over a grand.

if nobody offers anything up on here then its ebay uk and to be honest its shite,

there is the odd good box on there but if like you say youve got expensive taste then i would look abroad,as for what to look for the list is endless...check out some of the threads on on here on different boxes and see what floats your boat

Without knowing the basic's I was hoping someone might offer one on here. I'm not a fan of eBay at the best of times let alone something I know little about.

look in the sales section on here

lav.loo - 2013-01-20 14:36

don't look no further than this, cracking box and their cheap as chips, for a mid size box it sounds awesome

it's the philips d8614 sound machine, they pop up on ebay regular and never sell for more than a ton.

There are too many to chose from...realistically your best option is to do what I did...wander the forums for a while and find what you think you might like and then just take the plunge. We all like different boxes for different reasons plus some examples sound better than others of the same model if they've had a hard life. The answer is to buy loads of the buggers

these things dont crop up that easily, theyre flippin hard to find and cost a lot.

no one will just offer one up, i think everyone on here will most likely agree, you have to wait and hunt for the buggers.

How about SHARP-GF-777!  Cause it's BIG I think and easy to get from ebay.
