Boomboxes wanted

tster - 2013-12-01 13:52

Hi Guys,

As some of you may know I have just joined. I am really enjoying being a member and looking forward to collecting some nice boxes. I just fixed my first box today that I picked up for £3 at a boot sale!

I am really after my first proper box, a crowning piece if you like. I cant stretch to M70 and Conions etc but I kindly ask that you let me know if you have any reasonable priced boxes for sale. I am after a fully working unit of the bigger boombox variety to use daily whilst I am fixing others. I have dropped a post with Lobster regarding his TEC and would appreciate you guys letting me know of any that come up.

Cheers.

You really don't have to lay down big money to get a good box...you can pay ten times more for one of the really popular ones but they really aren't ten times as good...good luck with your search T-Ster

Hi T-ster

I have recently got into Aiwa boom boxes; certain models are cheap but they all seem to perform pretty well. The CS-600 model is quite large, fairly basic in the feature set but offers good performance, warm sound, reasonably good bass response and an excellent tape deck. I now have three of these; they all came from ebay, prices ranged between £20 and £60. There are many bargains like this to be had if you avoid the most popular machines. Some of the Sanyo's seem to be good value for money too. JVC RC-656's cost very little and offer reasonable performance and a good feature set. (I would avoid the JVC RC-M60 though, nice tape deck but they don’t sound great!) It is great fun hunting for a bargain; you may find a gem out there that knocks the spots off the machines I’ve talked about, it may even rival the expensive grail machines; you just have to take a chance sometimes. Often the the right machine for you will come down to personal taste; follow your instinct and you will have fun!

Good luck with your search!

hi T-Ster, I understand you've been bitten by the bug. We all have, but there's one thing you have to know immediately: the bug is addictive & asks for immediate fulfillment. The big trick of this trade, however, is patience.

My 2 cents: have a look at old threads at s2go, see as many pics as you can, try to get a taste for the boxes you like and go your own way -- not, at least immediately, after the so-called grail. Otherwise the odds are that you'll be gutted, believe me.

There're so many excellent small, midsize and even big boxes around that you can find for peanuts -- some of them believe it or not, no-name units. I wouldn't recommend going after an m-70 as a starter; it's a great box, but as Northerner says, overpriced because of its cult status.

Take your time; getting experienced in this game is no easy task. The more you learn, however, the easier you'll get what you want at (relatively) bargain prices. Good luck (and good hunt!)

I've got a Sharp GF9292, a Sharp VZ2500, a Sanyo KBX-7 for sale. Think the Sanyo needs work but the Sharps are fully working. Open to offers.

Oh forgot, also have a Sony FH-404, think the power switch needs some work but it sounds great. I'll look see what else I've got going.

Sharp GF-9XXX series are another favorite of mine; you can’t go far wrong with these. Wouldn’t mind the GF-9292 myself!

Hey Docs thanks for the post, be great if you could let me know how much for the Sharp 9292, I new so dont want to make an offer and get it massively wrong!

I like the look of them, would depend on price, pm me if ya like

Nice box the 9292, its very similar to the 9191 but with LEDs instead of vu's and a few styling differences. Much rarer tho. I'd like one as I'm slightly addicted to Sharps lol

michiel - 2013-12-02 13:50
