The M50 debate

stretch - 2011-12-20 14:27

Here's a link to the first thread:

index.php?board_oid=193392314111653483&content_oid=257009101855758529

Anyway, I'm talking about this because I was unable to get a reply in to all of the comments made (since I was asleep), and then it got out of hand and the thread had to be closed.

So, Here's just a reply to some of the things mentionned in that thread, and hopefully it helps us become better members through it.

With regards to what I did/didn't do, telling James first before posting etc:

I did: contact James right away as soon as I noticed the box had a tweeter drooping, telling him I was going to go inside and figure it out. He replied in 9 minutes according to Hotmail.

I did then contact james, with picture right away showing: the damage, pointing out areas in particular. He never replied to that email.

I had orginally made a YAY! thread on Boomboxery about this second M50, but turned it into a lesson thread, as I stated in my post there.

I did not post the issues/bad findings in that thread until 8:07pm, almost an hour after I sent the last email to James which was at 7:19pm. Given that he was 'curious for you to open this up an tell me just what happened here, and that he had swiftly emailed me back after the first email, it seemed correct that waiting an hour for a reply before posting my finding in my happy thread was just.

**It must be said tho that James was notified immediately to the issues. He still has my phone number, and email, and could contact me privately, but has done none of the above.**

I am not demanding anything nor have I demanded anything to be honest. You guys know me a bit on here, but what you don't know if I am fairly passive when it comes to asking for retribution etc. and in my final email, I closed with:

"Ah well, what can I do.
Check out the pics."

I have left it up to James to decide if he wants to do anything about it.

In all honesty, all I wanted was a good condition M50 with non-cracked back, the bonus being those beautiful blue speakers I thought to be original blue not painted, as in conversation with james I even made mention of people colouring their speakers and asked if these were to which he said no.

So, I got an expensive parts box and an expensive lesson. But, a lesson, paid for in cash or time or otherwise, is still a lesson learned, and I plan to use my knowledge to become a more savy buyer and better member.

have 'read this about' a zilliion times, Just letting the world know...

mellymelsr - 2011-12-20 18:18

After reading what has happened to Eric on this forum and Boomboxery I have come to this conclusion: Eric has handled himself with the utmost class considering he was blatantly ripped off by a seasoned collector who should know better. Mr Pierce should be ashamed to be apart of this community of boombox lovers. I now see why there is such disdain for him on Boomboxery. I would hope that Mr Pierce does right by Eric because karma always comes back around...

...ok you have read it, now, hopefully you will do the right thing.

claret.badger - 2011-12-20 18:34

and if people want to think of me as some sort of pariah or a stirring scumbag here's what I say to you:

THINK AGAIN - I'm not - and even though part of me really wants to say "I jus don't care"

The truth of the matter is - I DO CARE - if it happened to James - and I knew where I could find the guy who missold something to him - I'd do it AGAIN

Some people are all words and no action

ao - 2011-12-21 00:18

This was one additional thread on this topic which needed to be allowed.

So, James, if this is true then here is an unhappy customer you really need to take care of.  If I was about to dump 1,000+ boomboxes on to the market, I know what I'd do.

Also, it goes without saying that whatever you decide to do is not necessarily for public debate, so there's no pressure to reply here with any detail.

But hear this, this forum is your future market and is read by over 2,300 unique users every week. This means 2,300 different people. It's reach is enormous, search Google for any specific box and a S2Go result pops up on the first page (as do your videos). But the one to watch is frequency, this means people come back.  This can be the killer if you need to build a good reputation as a site or a member of that site.  Do the maths, Stereo2Go and Boomboxery are the default locations for anyone interested in this hobby on the web & I'm assuming you're no longer on their Christmas card list.  Believe me, this is a community you'll want on your side if you ever decide to sell boomboxes.

Just something to think about

To everyone else - Please, keep replies on topic, it would be a shame to close it again as I believe it can do some good.

ghettoman - 2011-12-21 03:33

This site needs a "like" button,Agent is Spot on !!

James.seriously, you need to sort this mate, just give eric $100 refund..he would apreciate it,and it "might" change peoples opinion of you man..come on lad..its the least you can do for the man, there is nothing to go away and think about for, just do it..do it now !!

redbenjoe - 2011-12-21 20:21

a few more matters to post re the pending FAST ? and fair ? resolution-

to expand on the above AO reply --

i do clearly recall biding on ebay directly competing with DM4U

for HUNDREDS of $$ expensive boxes--

on average --the boxes i watched him win -were in the US$100 to $150

range - often MUCH more !!

on some recent posts here --

he has stated that he has about 300 for sale -

thats $30,000 to $45,000 !!!!!!!!

so --not being totally 'decent' to any member // customer

will cause  him an obvious financial disaster

---------------------

next --there is no doubt - that he has had & seen many dozens or so

REAL JVC factory blue woofers -

and just had to know for sure --that those crappy // gross

cartoon color woofs were BOGUS -

so --sorry to say - that there seems to be no 'innocent' mistakes involved

---------------------------

finally --even if there were absolutely no concern for any member feedback

reports --or selling reputation

its still the ONLY DECENT option --to be fair to any customer

---------------

--hoping a very positive post from eric or dm4u will pop up - SOON

isolator42 - 2011-12-22 05:11

Eric reports no communication received from James as of 10 hours ago.

Eric posted a very calm update on Boomboxery, to answer queries for the latest info.

We've seen it before, such as Mike/Highvoltage (for those with long memories), when an active & enthusiastic s2g member ends up ostracised (& even booted out) because of a lack of performance on a deal.

It only needs to happen the once & that's it, you're out.

I'm not saying that's wrong (far from it), but on this occasion, there is still time. The hammer hasn't fallen yet, however, it surely will if nothing is done.

driptip - 2011-12-22 07:15

i agree...come on james it's only money...and it takes 10 seconds to do

ao - 2011-12-23 11:44

People, I know we all have our opinions as to what's going on here but we have to respect the rights of the individuals concerned to keep this matter private.  It really isn't fair of us (myself included) to insist James keeps us all posted on what action he's taking.

I've somewhat foolishly decided to mediate this matter with both parties via PM.  What I do know is that Stretch is certainly not insisting that action has to be taken but more importantly I know that James is more than keen to do whatever it takes to resolve this matter.

It's important for us to give all sellers a fair crack of the whip whenever an issue like this occurs, this situation is no different.

If you're all happy for me to manage this matter in this way then I will continue.  I will report back when a (and not necessarily what) solution has been reached.

I appreciate it that it is crucial that any future customers of this seller are 100% confident regarding their dealings.  Therefore I believe we should do whatever we can to assist.  If however it turns out that he is a rogue then it's also our duty to warn others.

Please PM me if you have any objections to this approach.

isolator42 - 2011-12-23 14:00

Sounds good Cris.

We just want it sorted so that Eric (the customer) is happy & James (the seller) can be relied upon in fiture.

It's an imperfect world & the mark of a good seller (here, on eBay or anywhere for that matter) is how they deal with a cock-up.

Keep us posted as you see fit.

Paul, you've put this better than me.  Too much port and Gentleman's relish last night

redbenjoe - 2011-12-27 20:01

after 2 huge threads --7 long days --all sorts of hopes that

this member//seller would at least TRY to make a decent deal from this mess--

our buyer friend has not been contacted in any way - by the decent man ????

-----------------------

oh --perhaps he is too busy to send an email or a PM or a phone call -

yeah right --

seems to have PLENTY of time to post here ?????????

others that I KNOW --have had nothing but very poor experiences

with this member

my advice = AVOID & IGNORE

isolator42 - 2011-12-28 01:47

Even though Eric has said he isn't expecting anything (& certainly isn't demanding anything) from James, I for one find the silence on this one somewhat deafening.

Hopefully, an agreeable resolution is in progress off-line & we'll hear of it in due course.

2 weeks gone by --

seller claims to have 300  more boxes to sell on this site--

anybody here know how hard he really tried to treat this one member//buyer

with any justice ??

it seems important to learn about this -

before any offers to sell anything are posted -

stretch - 2012-01-04 18:39

Yep, time has gone by rather quick hasn't it! I've done little work on the gold M71, only some bondo, but I have not heard anything from James. Again, i don't expect to hear anything, as that's how it seems to be unfortunately.

There was another thread with a member having issues getting his box shipped, and it reminded me exactly of my experience, with the 3-4 weeks etc. I'm glad he received his box in good condition though. I would link to the thread but can't seem to find it.

Ah well. I have put all good pieces of the M50 into a box and they sit in my closet now. If anyone needs parts let me know what and make an offer. Otherwise, it was a waste of an M50 when I really just wanted one in better shape to replace my current unit, not a box of spare parts for the closet.

eric

redbenjoe - 2012-01-04 19:02

Eric is being very nice about it, but it's clear he's not what you'd call a satisfied customer.

...just a little IMHO

James post here has been removed, which makes my post a little confusing.

Mods: remove it (& this one) if you want...

Still hoping for a happier ending to this one.

Sorry guys

Come on now lets not have history repeating itself all over again.

Lots of people are eagerly watching this for the right outcome.

Thanks James but again it appears that your reply doesn't address the above questions in any way what so ever, surprise, surprise.

What Stretch, myself and the rest of the board want to know is why haven't you approached Stretch with your plans to make good this M50 situation.  You PM'd me a couple of weeks ago mentioning that this was your intention, Stretch hasn't received your mail.

The crowd is growing restless James, what are your next steps here?

And please, no more 62,000 line cryptic replies or links to weird videos of fishes trying on dungarees.

50/50 here. Why hasn't Eric contacted me, Once again this ...

Evidently this started on Boomboxery - where I have NO Say, No Reply, No Voice! No rebuttal (boomboxery.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13329&p=164756#p164756) and I not a memeber there - So for starter's this should have been Kept over there!  & not brought over here to STG.

Allow me to answer and FINALISE this issue on BOOMBOXERY

Of course I would have to become a Member there yes?

So When that Happens...

am certain somebody would send an invite...

This is fair yes?

Untill then...

I am literally gobsmacked by this response James. This community accepted you back into its fore even though there had been history and many people put that to rest as water under the bridge. A situation like this is such a simple thing to resolve for anyone with some level of decency (no pun on name intended). Come on James, forget about politics of forums and what has been said and done, do the right thing as a decent person and a fellow collector of our beloved hobby.

isolator42 - 2012-01-05 07:56

James, the door of opportunity is closing...

ao - 2012-01-05 08:17

James, you are wrong on so many levels.  Stretch has demonstrated on so many occasions that he is a decent guy who could do without the headache of locking horns with a rogue seller, you are clearly taking advantage of this.  You can thank your lucky stars you're not dealing one of the other less forgiving members here.

Can I urge you to reconsider.  If this is your final answer then I'll have no alternative than to issue a very bold sticky Stereo2Go recommendation that potential buyers understand what lays await when dealing with you or any of your eBay/YouTube aliases.  As you are clearly of very poor character. You will also be banned from this community.

We did this with our dear friend Mediterano71 in the Walkman section, he is now a broken man selling pegs in the backstreets of Istanbul.

Again, can I urge you to reconsider.

PM's to myself on this subject will be ignored as you're clearly now happy to address this issue in the public domain.

You are saying that the original complaint was on Boomboxery, and that he should have posted it here instead.  OK, fine.  But, that doesn't mean you cannot defend yourself HERE, on this board.

Who cares whether you can post over there?  THIS board is the one you should be concerned about, IMO.

There is probably a 70-80% member overlap anyway.

Shrug.

Anyway, to conclude.

For reasons unbeknown to any of us James has decided not to make any effort to resolve this matter.  I don't understand his logic at all, surely this was a perfect opportunity for him to do the decent thing.

For this reason plus his habitual hijacking of other members posts plus any reason you care to think of his account on Stereo2Go has been locked.
