NEED HELP-HAVE OLD SONY WALKMAN BLUE AND SILVER marked:TPS-L2

shark1224 - 2010-08-15 16:49

If anybody could tell me please: I have an old SONY WALKMAN - BLUE METAL AND SILVER (silver color is narrow band with player control panel)... The only marking I find is on back of battery compartment: "CASSETTE PLAYER TPS-L2", battery size and "Made in Japan". It is working. I think i got it in 1980. I would like to know what it might be worth. I would like to sell it if I can. I have the blue plastic cover case if that means anything. I don't have AC adapter or headphones... just found it in storage and didnt know what to do with it... if anyone could give me any information about this player and how i might sell it ... Im not a collector. I appreciate any help with this. Thank you.

Hi ! As this is the first Walkman, no trash. Worth depends on conditon. Clean it and make some pictures. Might be 50-100 Euros, maybe more ?

The Sony TPS-L2 was the first Stereo Walkman released in July 1979. The earliest models do NOT say Walkman on the front bottom. When you take pictures of all sides including battery area make sure you post the serial number as it can have some effect on value.
Value is very much determined by exterior cosmetic condition, battery area and how well all functions work including talk line. $65 to $150 ( perfect working low serial number). If you had the orig. box ( often worth more than player) and MDR-3L2 Headphones with foam intact then value could be several hundred dollars. Because Sony made millions of this model ( WM-3 nearly identical in black) many survive today (very well built) so rarity is not so much factor as it is the first portable stereo cassette player. This model started it all, even the IPOD owes the idea of playback only portable player idea to this model.

WHEN YOUR READY WITH PICTURES YOU SHOULD REPOST NI THE FOR SALE and Auction topic area.

Hiya,

It varies throughout the market and it depends on what condition it is in and if it is working of course.

It can varies from £25 to £100 just for the unit itself with case as that helps to sell it better.

Generally this time of year as you might get a bit less as people are on holidays etc etc

Hope this helps

Colin

The picture on that TPS-L2 box looks really cheesy.

If it works & it's not too shabby looking it'll sell.
Give it a bit of a clean, & post some pics.

If no-one here snaps it up, eBay could well be the best place for selling it...

FIVE YEARS AGO ...

Would be best for you to make a NEW Thread in the WALKMAN WANTED SECTION of here for this old "Sony walkman TPS-l2"  rather than tacking on to years old threads of people selling stuff as some people 'forget to come back to their sales' place and say Sold!    Right?
