Sony YPPY YP-EW23 '96

Hello,

This is my 1st post here. I´m not a walkman collector, in fact I don´t know much about walkmans.

I´m posting here because I´ve found an old walkman at home and I don´t know if it has any collector value and if it´s worth selling it or If I should just recycle it.

I have googled the model but I haven´t found anything about it on the net, not one single pic. I´ve just found this forum which seems to be the right place to ask about walkmans.

It´s a Sony YPPY Yp-ew23 from 1996. It's brand new and has never been used, it has its original box and all papers (garantee, manual in several languages, a yppy card? and even a postcard). It also is a pretty weird walkman. It´s not the usual plastic (or metallic) walkman, this one is protected by a white cloth that cannot be detached from the walkman. It has

I have uploaded some pics, in case you want more info or pics just tell me. Photos

Thanks for your attention and regards!!

Welcome to the forum. The YPPY series of players ( many models were made) had a theme of being fashion/appearance the primary design factor. They were not of high quality sound but were dependable. Most all had a slip case that slide over the mechanical unit that held the cassette tape. The players were targeted to the young early and late teen generation. Your best bet is to put the item up on ebay my guess is since it is boxed and I assume works perfectly may get $50-85 USD. Believe they are more sought after by collectors in Europe.

Wow, you weren't kidding about it being new - it doesn't look as if it's been handled at all. I've got a boxed YP-ES22, same innards as yours, but has a plastic case that the bottom end of the unit slips into, to leave just the top edge and the controls showing. I bought it for novelty value more than quality and it's another one for my collection. I would keep it (suspect you've parted with it).

I have one and it is a pretty good player. Definitely not high end sound as this is just from 40hz to 15khz but it is an ok player.
