Vintage WESTINGHOUSE REEL-TO-REEL TAPE RECORDER/PLAYER Model H29RI. This is an odd little recorder as it takes these little reel-to-reel cassettes (looks like an early version of the modern day cassette tape). Measures 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" and comes with the black leather case

Very cute, I love the camera-quality construction. I'd have to argue that this isn't a walkman.

The SONY TPS-L2.80s Walkmans rule!Kristi Carr

Correct, Kristi got it, the TPS-L2 was indeed the first Walkman

Would the minimum requirement for something to be classed as a Walkman be a battery operated compact cassette player with a stereo headphone socket?

transwave5000 - 2009-01-13 05:48

Probably, but im refering to stuff before the walkman.

The Walkman name can only be used by Sony.
Its a trademark name.

I think Sony had some stereo cassette units, only earphone jack, around 1974, but without the Walkman name on it. But might have been for domestic market only. Sales were close to zero at the time.

All correct but a walkman must be stereo

Don't forget the Stereobelt. Smile

But the TPS-L2 it is... I named my laptop after it, since it is also my first laptop and it also portable. Big Grin

Don't forget about Astraltune
It was portable, it was stereo, it was before TPS-L2 Smile

My Astraltune has 1978 on its rechargeable batteries
