Need help to identify this walkman

I don't have much info to go on here, I remember trying out a walkman before I bought my Toshiba back in the early 80's. The brand name was not Toshiba. And it was not a sony. But I don't think it was some off-brand either. I think it was tape only, no tuner. But the feature that made it interesting to me is that you could press a button (or flip a switch?) and the sound of the tape would mute and the unit would amplify the ambient sound so you could hear everything going on around you louder and clearer. Sort of like one of those late night TV head-phone-hearing-aid type things.

Any ideas of what brand/model this might have been????

Yeah, pretty much all Walkmans between 1980 & 82 came with this feature. Apart from Sony & Toshiba I know JVC, Aiwa, Sanyo did this plus some cheaper branded units.

I am ashamed to say that I don't remember much else about the walkman other than that feature. I wanted to wait for the Toshiba that was coming in because it had the FM tuner pack. I never did buy the am tuner pack. I remember being a bit dissapointed because the Toshiba was bigger. But it does have the stereo mic. Seperated by 1/4" of space, so whoopie.

What I do remember is that it was a brand that was familar to me. And that the walkman was very sturdy, metal and chrome. I faintly remeber some blue or dark blue on the cassette door. And it was a much smaller profile than the Toshiba.

I will check your leads, but I honestly don't know if I would recognize it if I saw it today. It has been a good almost-30 years ago...
