What Case Should I Get For My WM-10II?

outland - 2011-10-28 21:30

Greetings,

This is my first post on the board so I'll keep it short.

I bought a WM-10II for a fair price recently as my old WM-F41 has given up playing tapes and I like to use my Walkman. Surprisingly, it arrived in immaculate condition, and there are almost no cosmetic imperfections. Since it's so nice-looking, I thought I would get a case for it.

Where do you think I could acquire such a case? Did Sony ever release a case for the WM-10?

Perhaps one of you is willing to sell me one...? I've looked around the classifieds here and on the 'bay, but nothing very interesting has come up.

Anyways thanks in advance for all ideas,

John

no case that i remember, though i think I remember seeing a extremely rare case for one of the (10) series...

The WM-10 Is Well Know for it's belt/clip - slash - on the shoulder under the arm strap connected to the belt/clip - it's a short strap - so .. did I paint the correct picture for you?

Search for the Belt Clip and or strap for the Sony WM-10 series Walkman

The original case was a leatherette soft case that could be worn on a standard trousers belt. Not very convenient but offerred a full body protection from scratches and minor dings

You can very easily improvise and get a 'hand stitched' soft pouch made out of good quality rexine

Oh man, that is delicious.

Where do you think I would be able to track one of those down?

Actually the design of the leatherette pouch was absurdly simple. So be bold and try a copy

More like a standard issue envelope with edges stitched together rather than being heat sealed/Gummed up. So you need a length of rexine that goes around your walkman completely and continues on till it is almost flush with the starting edge. The side edges are not covered completely to allow insertion of the headphone plug...so tiny width thickness flaps at the starting width of rexine make for a sort of T shaped piece of rexin that becomes a pouch once you stitch up the edges. If you find it difficult at your end I can always ask a local upholstery chap to fabricate one ...it shouldn't cost you more than $15 to get one made I guess.

If you're looking for the original case, you'd probably find one on eBay with the accompanying Walkman after a long wait...and they're usually pricey.  But DocP's suggestion for DIY is a great one.

If you're really after an '80s look, you can try finding some mylar or mirror-like faric.  Not sure how easy it is for sewing but if you pull it off right, it will be a nice accessory for your WM-10.

I stand corrected. A case made out of that would be perfect.

Here's the thing though, I've never done this kind of thing before. It could be a fun project, but I don't even know where to begin. Could one of you guys help me out with the procedure?

I bet if I'm able to do it right, it would come out lovely!

easy....

step 1..  remove girl from dress

step 2.    insert walkman..

step 3.    cut off excess fabric

i have a grey velvet case that say sony on the upper left hand corner. it slips in from the top and is a nice fit. don't turn it upside down or it will fall out. it should fit all those small sonys like the 10-20-----10-30 ect. i don't know what it was made for but it fits the bill and it is a sony product. anyone handy with a sewing machine could duplicate it except the sony logoo. it will keep the minor bumps and scratches off.

Yeah? Does it have a flap that can cover the WM-10 if flipped? If so, I think I've seen that one.

In any case, I still need a case. Do you guys use anything on your own Walkmans?
