Need help routing new belt for WM-F73

butterscott - 2012-02-13 11:48

The belt on my WM-F73 AM/FM Auto-Reverse water-resitant Walkman broke..and I'm awaiting the new 7.5" replacement belt..

However, since the old belt was broken, I can't figure out the correct routing for the new replacement belt. The Service Manual for the WM-AF79 (same mechanism for WM-F73) doesn't show the routing..

I've attached a few pictures..and would appreciate help showing me how to route the new belt..

I'd prefer if you contact me directly at my Email address:  w215@comcast.net..

I'm new to Stereo2Go..

Thanks..

David

The belt goes under the first pulley closer to the motor then over the black pulley around the brass pulley and back under the silver pulley.

Many thanks!

Just to be sure..

the first pulley closest to the motor spins the takeup capstan..which should rotate counterclockwise to wind the moving tape on the take-up spindle..

to accomplish this, with the motor small shaft spinning counterclockwise, you would not want the belt contacting that first aluminum-colored wheel as a first step..that would make the capstan (on the other side) spin clockwise..

I think that, first..loop the belt over the small motor pulley..then..loop it onto the black plastic wheel..then..on to the brass flywheel  (these will then be spinning counterclockwise)..

then..from the brass flywheel..bring the belt in front of the aluminum-color wheel (in the area where you can see that white cogwheel in the picture below the aluminum-color wheel)..and slip it underneath it..and back on to the motor small pulley..that way, the aluminum-color wheel will be spinning clockwise..and, as a result, the capstan (on the other side) will spin counterclockwise..as it should..

Maybe that's what you meant..

I don't know how to send you a diagram superimposed on the pictures I sent you..Maybe you know how to diagram the correct routing..I'm not that cumputer savy..but maybe you know how to add a routing line onto one of my pictures..

..and, it's better for me to reply to my Email address:  w215@comcast.net

I REALLY appreciate your kindness in helping me!!

David

I've crudely made a diagram of a routing that may be correct..

Although it may look like the belt goes from the brass-color flywheel back to the motor pulley by going on the cream-color cogwheel, it would go UNDER the aluminum-color wheel closest to the motor..(This was my first time using MS "Paint" to draw..and my hand wasn't steady.)

Does this seem correct?

Attached is a better diagram of routing..

Is this likely the correct routing??
