found Sony WM-W800 dual cassette walkman

iakovl - 2012-09-18 07:55

after cleaning my uncles house i found a W800 dual cassette walkman in the closet

it's with his leather case and looks good, the only problem i found is that in some point in time a battery leaked and there is corrosion in the battery chamber

but it still works, going to get a cassette tomorrow to check if it plays and records

my main question is how "rare" it is? first dual cassette player i ever seen

while i don't intend to sell it now (depending... no idea how much it's worth) it would be nice to know it's value

It's quite rare I think, but not really, really rare. I've seen them come up on ebay quite regularly. I know that coz I won one a few months ago.

However, unlike you, I was unfortunate that mine doesn't work and it turned out that the belts had turned to a sticky molten mess inside which I've cleaned up. Just waiting for some new belts now although I hear they are pretty hard to get hold of (unless anyone knows otherwise). So I think you are lucky that it works but it might not as soon as you put a tape in it so watch out.

Keep it. I've got one but I wouldn't sell it. I've sold decent walkmans before and wished I hadn't. The belts were bad on mine, but I got some more - look for member DocP on here, he'll get you some. Clean the battery terminals as best you can and replace the belts and enjoy! I only know of one other twin deck Walkman (Panasonic) but in my opinion the Sony's got way more style!
