Magnavox Moving Sound

Hi all!

I am cleaning out my attic, and came across my old Magnavox Moving Sound stereo cassette player I got for my birthday in the 80's. I was curious about it, so I started searching, and found this website! If anyone knows more about it, it's got to be you guys!

On any photo I can find of this player, it has the Phillips logo. Mine has the Magnavox logo. I know Magnavox was taken over by Phillips in the early 70's, but am curious if anyone knows more about this particular one, with the Magnavox log (D 6608/17).

Thanks so much!

- Liz

welcome Liz,

i know i wont be much help, this is the first time i see this model, it looks kind of cool tho, it looks more like a kids player, not much of a boombox.

Hi Driptip,

Thanks for your reply!

You're right - it's definitely not a boombox! A little portable stereo (mono, of course). I've seen  a few of these on this site, but all with the Phillips logo... I wonder if this was one made before, or after, Magnavox was taken over by Phillips in '74?

Hi Liz,

It's a Philips product, but for the american market it's badged as Magnavox, because Philips company could not sell their electronics in the US under "Philips" brand name, so Philips has bought Magnavox, just to sell their own electronics on the US market.

According to catalog, player was made in 1987

Hey Metad!

Ok, now I understand why it has Magnavox on it - it's American.

Thanks so much - and neat to see the actual catalog. Thanks!!

I see the "taco" walkman all the time here at the Dutch auctions

Hey Kin,

the 'taco' - lol! Great nickname! Are they worth anything?

Hi Liz,

I have been looking for one of these! All the ones I have found online had already been sold but I've seen them go anywhere between 10 and 40 bucks. If you are interested in selling this please let me know!
