What made auction prices skyrocket for Sony WM-10s, F10s, 20s, & F20s?

Some have surpassed $400! Even the ones listed in need of repair are fetching high prices. What on Earth happened between late 2010 and now which the raised prices on these little gems?

Panic and greed.

The greed part makes sense, but panic over what?  I first wondered if some movie came out featuring one of those models in one of the scenes or something.

Panic usually sets in when buyers truly or falsely believe that the item is rare or hard to find and therefore have to have it at any cost.

True that, but I wonder from what such panic could've stemmed. Also, I only know of these particular models being affected. I wonder if prices rose for all Sonys or just certain Sony models or perhaps all brands of cassette Walkmans. The price jump seems too significant and it seems to have happened in too short of a time period to not have been triggered by something major.(I understand that 3 years isn't exactly considered short in the realm of things like stock prices, etc., but for something that many consider obsolete? <---Blasphemy, I know! LOL Individuals who consider them obsolete are no friends of mine! Hahaha!) I also noticed a massive increase in the amount of these particular models being sold simultaneously. Thoughts?
