CB Radios!
Here's one of my 'grails'
Awesome radio, genuinely mint condition.
I've also got a stunning mint Colt Excalibur, which is up in the attic otherwise I'd have posted up a pic of that too.
Good ol cb days, breaker breaker come in, its a shame nobody uses them anymore least they dont in my neck of the woods, one of the first cb's i had the use of was an 80 channel harvard, the thing took 10 aa cells and went through duracell like nobodys buisness.
many years ago, a friend of mine got a CB and needed to choose a 'handle' (username) - listening in, he liked the name of someone called 'wheelspin' so decided to refer to himself as 'skid-mark' !
how we laughed as it took him weeks to realise his mistake !

That's cool
, I was hooked on CB in the late 70's and early 80's. More geeky fun from the good ol days.
I have a CB I bought back around 1987 or so from Radio Shack... nothing fancy, but it should still be in good shape if you want it for the cost of shipping. I will take a picture of it if you think you might be interested...
Breaker, breaker c'mon buddy you got your ears on. C'mon lets do a convoy, my 18's are ready and willing!
I love it, I've always wanted to get into ham radios don't know too much about them but they must cool to tinker with.
Hey 2 steppa, back in the day my friend and I collected cb's too. he had several President radios including the Grant. He had a Grant with a 150watt linear amp on transmit and receive in his 1979 Chevy Nova. that was an awesome set. We talked to his mom on his SBE base with a 350 watt linear and slider on a triple beam antenna with rotor on a 50 foot tower about 83 miles away in the car while on the move in hilly country on that radio.
Those were the days, man that is a great talker.
That sounds like alot of work just to talk to your mom......
"Back in the day".... I was picking up chicks. I also didn't use phrases such as "SBE base with a 350 watt linear and slider on a triple beam antenna with rotor on a 50 foot tower"....
I think that helped...
Cheers Skippy! (Or was that 'SkipTalker back in the day?)
I never had a beam antenna, but tended to use an Avanti Sigma 4 or a Sirtel.
To be honest I prefer talking 'skip' around the world to 'ratchet jawing' locally, much more interesting and satisfying. In fact, with the sunspot cycle hence the skip on the rise again now it might be time to break out the old gear again in the not too distant future.
Talking of linears, I've got two sets of mains valve (tube) units lounging around somewhere which I remember I only used LATE at night/early hours of the morning otherwise nobody in the vicinity could watch TV
Yes 2 steppa,I remember "shooting skip" as we call it here That was a lot of fun. don't remember what brand of beam antenna my friend had,but I remember it was pretty expensive at the time.
This is all I have left from the CB days. I was actually thinking of selling it.
This is the original marage 88 am / fm/ ssb/ 120 up and 120 down echo, built in talk back and roger beep. the mic needs to be re-wired lol it is the original M575. and a galaxy 80 kicker. now this was part of my car setup. For "regular" power I had the M88 on the low power setting so I would dead key at 2 watts ( with the amp on) and it would swing 65. This was one loud azz unit that would bleed over many channels. lol Now this was actually part one part 2 was a TNT 1200. So this was the pre-amp so to sepak going to the 1200 watt amp. I ues do go over bank intercom systems, drive through intercon systems, through their head sets, people's TV's It was LOUD slpooy and I loved every min. of it~!!!!!! You would key up and you could hear the motor of the car dip down while the headlights dimmed. I also had a texas star 800 HDV on the cobra 148.
Now, for the home units.. lol. Cobra 2000 peaked and frekaed with noise toys. Heathkit amplifier ( tubes) D104 silver eagle mic. I loved that base station. I sold it on ebay around 2000.
The only stuff i have left is just what is in the pic with a president external speaker and a gold spring looking antenna.
Mabye i should get a antenna mount and hook it up and see who might still be out their. Out here ch. 21 was the big one.
I forgot to add, a friend of mine ran a golden eagle base station. Man I loved that thing. The key up would be that feeback that sounded like a eagle cry sort of thing. LOL I was heavy in to it back in the 80's 90's
Very nice radio erniejade
