today - i received my very first egg -and immediately embarked on the usual rampage to conduct a few scientific , controlled experiments ::
of course the very first matter that must always be addressed is -- which box will attract the grooviest chicks
results to follow--
masterblaster84 - 2008-02-26 21:05
Ira that's a great 2 boombox generation photo, Father and Son!
I can't wait for the results.
so i popped the conion on my shoulder and stolled down to the corner where all the cool hotties hang out --i put in my abba tape (chics dig them)-
and just as you would expect --breakdancing broke out immediately , i was surrounded by autograph seekers , paparazzi -- and all the fanfare and excitement that inevitably involves any conion outing -
--------------------
not daring to lose this momentum -- i quickly switched boxes , and had the identical music blasting out of the egg-
but no one ever did hear the music - because it was overpowered by loud boos and jeers and insults : nerd, Nerd, NERD -- NERD GO HOME
___________________
so by some measurable margin - we can once again safely assume - that the conion wipes the egg as THE undisputed chic magnet --
but then there is always the little matter of performance --
and in a few days, when i finish 1/2 the egg instruction booklet - and learn some control over the sound potential - i will promptly report the results-
but in the meantime, as just a tiny hint -
i applied what looked like a harmless little button entitled "surround" and got blown away-
big time !
ira its a great box press the sxbs button then quickly moove the jog dial your xbs level will go up2 10 instead of 7
thanks tim --i cant even really get to it for a day or so --but its already da bomb at the 7 setting!
SH-T , i forgot the doily
Here is m latest rounds of egg and bacon ira im on beans and toast again but i had to have it.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&it...=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=006
What model conion is that in the top picture? It's exactly the sort of boombox that catches my eye -- I'm still new at this, just trying to figure out the names with the models I really like. Thanks!

Congratulations Ira, glad to hear it arrived safely, and that is a great pic. Yes, that "harmless little button" has that effect on people!
Enjoy...

It's a Conion C-100F.One of the expensier boxes on ebay at the moment. You'd do better finding one in the wild
Interresting review redben!Looking forward for the final tests after you got around the whole manual!
welcome novosleep --
the conion in the photo as it is all complete and well would be about 1000 at retail (ebay)-
but we know of one member here who has 12 good ones -- and he found them all in the wild---
so, agreeing with KS --take it slow and look around --
good luck with this terrific hobby

We've got some journalists writing for the red-tops with about the same grip on reality as you - breakdancing to Abba, my 4rse
Still a good read nonetheless.
Simply put....you were hanging around with the wrong chicks...
Congrats Ira! Take a photo of it next to any UE boxes you want to sell to instantly increase their value! For any UE box associated with such a lovely egg must be worth more than it's percieved value. The Coney-Onkyo would accomplish this as well!
peter.griffin - 2008-02-27 09:13
Alright Ira, it arrived, wuhoo
The egg is not eye candy, but it definitely is ear candy
And congrat's to Rimmer too, I got the same one, DT75, and it is awesome.
I like both boxes equally. Very nice Ira!!!!!
matrixambience - 2008-02-27 17:19
I like'em both too! I have the Panasonic DT-707 and love it!I don't think I will ever hear a Conion, but still it is beautiful!
ok - back to the performance results-
to review - we agreed than the conion cleaned up in the "CC" contest --
but the 'how it sounds' part was more competitive
before i tested them together - i was using the surround setting on the sgg --and it sounded so spectacular - that i was secretly hoping (in a sick sort of way) -
that the egg would blow the conion away -
well - its now a FACT that no box can blow a conion away --
however - the surround on this egg is nothing like those cheap shot wide or ambience modes on all the other grails --the effect is tremendous and thrilling -
and it IS IS IS SURROUND -
even better than the worlds benchmark - the bose wave (honestly)
the egg also has bass control and some pre-set contours that can make it sound like lots of different good boxes -- including the c100f-
so the flexibility is amazing on this thing -
finally - the egg comes surprisingly close to the power of the conion -- say about 90% - which is LOUD
the bottom line is -
if you want to stay 'home alone' and seriously listen to some serious music -- the egg is you.
but if you feel like entertaining your groupees with those cool old vu meters and flashing red lights and play with knobs (like me), and impress chics and have loud fun -
then the conion is MUCH more fun
______________
if price (like family value) counts -
the conion , complete in good shape is $1000 and a mint 707 egg is only $250 -
your choice-
ira no way can the ed707 be 90% of the conions volume surley not. I agree the surround on the 707 is spectacular though, a beutiful machine.
WRONG !!
tim - to me , loud limits are the base distortion level -- where both your ears and/or the woofers are going to break --
and the conion base -- just like almost every box -- distorts way before you want it to -
the 707 hangs in there at least to 90% of the conion
do you have a c100f ?
CRED to the 707, it took me ten years to get my origional one back im just glad i have it, using it now sounds nice and mellow
Sorry guys but i just could never bring myself to buying a "Humpty Dumpty" like that...

Forget the friggin' Cony...Nothing else in the portable realm has the sound, features and early high end tech quality as these Panasonics. No its not a "GhettoBlaster" but they are the top of the high end portable market....Different strokes for different VINIX's
peter.griffin - 2008-02-28 05:56
Hey Ira, Rimmer, do you guys have the ED707, or the RX-DT707? Rimmer I know you just bought the DT75. Wondering what difference in sound is between the ED707, DT707, and DT75. Cause the DT75 has amazing sound. Like I said above, better bass and sound then the M90 up until about 80% volume.
ehem ehem, who have here 12 conions?
please, put a pics of a wall of conions!!! would be a dream.
muchas thanks
hi calvin i have the dt707 it sounds good but not the same as m90 mind you i have turned my m90's into beasts so i cant realy compare lad my dt 75 hasn't arrived yet but if it sounds as good as you sugest i will be well pleased, the ed707 sounds sh1t in my opinion i remember when i had mine it sounded so tinny that i had complaints about the sound and was told to turn it off at parties.
The reason i belive the ed707 dosn't sound so good is because panasonic re desighned the speaker enclosures so the speaker was facing upward instead of forward like the dt707 dt75. Hope this helps, another good egg to get is the ed90.

Mafia, here's a pic of some of GS's wall. Couldn't find the one with 13.
http://stereo2go.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8306018954/m/90...691041114#4691041114He Rimmer, you will be blown away by the DT75. I'm not joking when I say it's better sounding then the M90 up until about 80%. It's on about 40% volume in my living room, and it fills it up with nice FULL sound. I can feel the bass 12 feet away from the boombox
I actually had to turn the XBS down to like 7
peter.griffin - 2008-02-28 06:34

you hit the buttons on the right handside, think it's the top button "main menu select". And it will scroll to "sound", then you hit the "sub menu select" button, and it scrolls to xbs or tone. And you hit the fwd or rwd buttons raise and lower

peter.griffin - 2008-02-28 07:24
cool, are you at any of the bars/clubs along Crescent street?
Hey Gord, I'm actually a member of the "humpty dumpty" club
They may look "dumpy", but man they sound amazing. And you can't beat having a remote
We can't all find 13 Clairtones/Conions
That Conion makes the egg look ridiculous.
...it looks really clean too!

Love Panasonic's line of cobra-tops and relatives...my RX-ES30 keeps up with and in some aspects even surpasses my JVC M70! And I love their design too...there, I've said it!
Yes well its obvious from my post how I feel about conions. Sure they are nice to look at...and the knobs are fun to twirl., but put your ear close to conions and you'll get slapped up side of the head. Not so with eggs..in fact you can put an egg very easily and delicately up to each ear and hear the sweet mellifluous booming mudulated sonance of the Panasonic surround circuit.
I loved beer, now I love eggs.
...besides, with a Conion, you have to go to the sound, but with an "egg", you simply let your finger do the "walking"...as it pushes that little volume button on the remote. Rather than getting a slap upside of the head, you won't even notice, as your eardrum slowly melts and trickles down your neck.
Eggs for the house...Conions for the streets
