Wow! I haven't even thought of one of those in ages.
masterblaster84 - 2008-09-14 16:03
Definitely on my long forgotten list.
You just might be the last great Starfighter as well!
But really, that's awsome! Somebody knew that "Hey there will be guys who collect these and maybe the rewinds or fast forwards won't work..."
Looks to be for old people.
It's for saving batteries, and wear and tear on the motor and belts. Especially after longer-length tapes started becoming popular. Also, it's just a lot faster - it can rewind a 90-minute tape from one end to another in only 30-40 seconds!

so back in reply to the statement in your first post, no you are not
I was lucky enough to walk past an old electrical store near where I live who was "relocating" . . these were 50p each in a bargain bucket ! !

makes us all wonder what ELSE royal has over there !!
NICE dude.......real nice. Tell me though, are you O.G. enough to actually USE one
I have one too.
Mine doesn't have the full cassette shape, just two spindles for the tape reels to attach to & the winding mechanism. Used to use it all the time. Even though I used rechargeable batteries, I didn't want them running out too early.
Remember how quickly NiCads gave up when they went flat? Little or no warning... not nice.
I have a whole lot of them, but they are more
advanced, some peopels cal them walkmans
told ya all --
walkgirl is extreme super cool !!

If not.... The pencil (it was mainly a pen for me) is EXACTLY what I used to (and still do) use...
the correct size hex driver -- with the long right angle grip ---is faster than lightning or even jackie robinson
yeah! all that , or simply pressing rewind
thats just some UK gimmick
oh noes!, now everybody wants walkmans
Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim, Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp
the only place I want walkmans is in the walkman section nicoooooooolllleeeeeeeeeeee

Cool......Post up tomorrow when you're done rewinding!
The pencil is broken!, and the finger!
yet another easy solution is this way ::
if you have all crappy music --
that you never want to hear again --
no need to ever rewind anything.
(i rule)
For sore fingers and broken pencils everywhere...NO rewinding necessary-ever!
SPEED !!!!
did anyone here mention speed ?
try the new hitachi audiophile job --with variable speeds and adjustable torque settings-
90 minutes = 8 seconds (more or less)
-----for those without imagination --
pix to follow.

BTW...I think your model wins in both categories...automatic, and speed (variable or otherwise)!
Does it come with a free scooter....I mean tape holder or is that extra
no eric -- but it does come with a dozen free tape repair kits!!
hey eric and JC --
no sh1t -- this rig works perfectly -- never fails.
but 'dont try this at home' before you apply these 2 procedures :
1. practice on your friends tapes , FIRST---
until you master the feel of the V.S. trigger.
2. the best 'safety clutch' --
(until you get good)
is to use a smooth round pencil ,
and leave the chuck just slightly loose.
this is NO B.S.

I dunno Ira, I thought it was the
B.est
S.ystem so far...
...and hopefully those who try it-have lots of friends so they can perfect their skill...before trying this at home!
JC --this is just more evidence to support that theory ::
"you can never have too many friends"
and, a further method of finding out 'who your REAL friends are '
peter.griffin - 2008-09-17 12:49
wow, what a great thread. Lots of laughs
JC, I remember doing that with my tapes as a kid. Didn't that put the tape out of alignment?
No Peter, but I think it put my finger out of alignment...permanatly!
It was cool...to stick the pencil in the hub, and give the shell a whack...and watch it spin around!
(Just kidding)!

Yeah...and which ones could hit you the hardest (and not leave too many marks)!
actually , JC, the kind of friends i have --
wont trust me with their own tapes --
instead -- they hand over their wives tapes

peter -- there is plenty of 'play in the system'
so --no alignment problem.
