How many of us actively carry?

928gts - 2008-09-10 19:39

....Uh I mean our boxes, not weapons and such! How many of us here regularly sling our boxes over our shoulders, walk down the street and blast some fine music?

I love doing it,personally. I usually take my smaller Panasonic with me as its less strain on my shoulder and allows me to walk further. It has plenty of volume for shoulder listening and its a solid box all around. If I'm feeling sadistic I hulk around my SCR-8 or my D8443 which really test my stamina but they have so much more volume and a bit more fullness to their sound.

Regardless I get so many looks on my college campus when I'm lugging any of my boxes around as people just aren't used to such a spectacle!

Anyone else carry around their boxes?

cali9dub - 2008-09-10 19:45

took my Conion C100 to the bar...I'll never do that again...all kinds of people taking pictures with it, almost dropping it, etc...sheesh !!

oldskool69 - 2008-09-10 19:51

Try carrying a PH-480/490/492, PC-55 or Sanyo C9. Nothing out there I know of is heavier. My C9 weighs nearly 37lbs...with batteries! They all feel like carrying small children! Laugh Out Loud

redbenjoe - 2008-09-10 19:57

unless we are in a hurricane Smile
i take mine out every day --

never lug them -- instead they ride shotgun on the bucket seat of a go-cart.

That has to be harsh on the back! I certainly wouldn't carry anything that heavy. I'm pretty tired after carrying my 15lb or so SCR-8.

ford93 - 2008-09-10 21:01

Sometimes I take out my Kaboom to my yard and I really enjoy the bass that comes out of it. Although at the Sunshine mix meeting I noticed at high volume she just did'nt have it. JT's Kaboom sounded much better in my opinion. Frown

jaredscottfla - 2008-09-10 21:07

Smilesharp qt 27,is my main outside carry box, with the doogs, light enough to carry but loud enough to enjoy the tunes.

i agree oldie on fisher ph's try a sharp vz 2000 talk about a back breaker!!!!

gluecifer - 2008-09-11 00:02

I keep meaning to take a box to work on the walk down there.. but I can never bring myself to do it. I look like too much of a spectacle to begin with...but one day I will and then it'll be every day!

I find I'm 'looking' for places I could take my radios now and enjoy them, but not bit the bullet yet.

But I do definitely plan on carrying!

Rock On.

fatdog - 2008-09-11 06:46

I used to take some of mine out. When my daughter was younger, we would go to the local splash pad park and I'd take either my Yorx K3681 or the Rising SRC-2015 for entertainment. I always had people gawking and pointing. Most of them had probably never seen any boomboxes - let alone boxes that big. At least nobody grabbed their kid and ran away screaming! Laugh Out Loud

Now, we have passes for the pool at the Town Center. They supply music, so taking a box is not worth it. Plus, I'd worry about some little heathen brat pouring water on it when I'm under water. Nod Yes

petey.awol - 2008-09-11 11:48

I take my Lasonic 975 out all the time. Even for a beaten down looken box, it still has people bugging out and even busting mini dance moves. Not bad for a radio missing its doors, and having a cracked left speaker grill cover, and missing aentenea. Plus its got blemishes on its side. Perhaps i will get the parts needed for it one day. Perhaps get another and use the original as a parts box. Anyone with parts now that I'm mentioning it?

ghettoboom777 - 2008-09-11 12:09

Hi-I will usually carry may Sony GF-55 because it's not a classic box and I travel so much I don't want to wreck my good ones, not that the Sony is bad or anything it's just that I like having a boombox that has a subwoofer and it has a lit up display which is kind of rare for these type of boxes.
It has a line -in and it sounds really good.
I carry it around but no shoulder strap.
I just carry it and I also carry my party supplies-a little beer or vodka and or a little whiskey and maybe a little fireworks! Nod Yes
Otherwise for rare and I mean rare occasions I'll bring out my GF-8989II for old school memories.
I'm patiently waiting for my 2nd.GF-777 and then I might bring out the 2nd. one out for some rare partying days.
I love bringing boxes outside for partying,I usually bring a bag that has a couple of MP-3 players and a couple of small mini's like a Grundig 7 band little mini -stereo and I have a super cool mini Magnavox that I carry sometimes and it's actually stereo W/spatial sound.
My favorite outdoor box for carrying is definitely the GF-8989!!
Have a super day & week-Ghettobooom777. Smile Cool

You mean like this?

Nobody carries boxes on their shoulder with music blastin' in real life - that's some Hollywood sh!t! Wink

She does... or did, back in the day. And I wish I had been there to see it.

monolithic - 2008-09-11 15:18

That's different - I'm talkin' about having the speakers mere inches away from your ear. Eek

reli - 2008-09-14 09:38

They did back in the 80's......But only a few people could pull off that look. You also had to wear something like a thick Russell hoodie to absorb the weight on your shoulder.

vladi123456 - 2008-09-14 09:53

I have my National 5350 in the kitchen, and when I have some people over - that is what they do - stand in front of it and gawk, point fingers and try to touch it. I would not take my Panny out of the house - I know it would easily provoke a few bar fights - one is more likely to see a supermodel at my local bar - than another one of these Panasonics Laugh Out Loud

Ira, I do still have it - but it's suffered some damage in the last few months - as I used it as my backyard box - and it fell off the table quite a few times - brought to me by drunk guests Big Grin

reli - 2008-09-14 10:27

C'mon man,... I was carryin' boxes back in 1985-1989 and I've never seen anyone walkin' around carryin' a box like that (except in movies and television). The only way I can see somebody doin' that in real life is if they posed for a camera real quick or had the volume down to a minimum... I know damn well they aren't tryin' to damage their hearing.

Who says the volume has to be up high, or that the speakers have to be facing his head? Razz

Also, carrying a box by its handle means that your leg keeps brushing against it. No No

Straps are the best way to carry...... But propping it up on the shoulder once in awhile says to the world, "yeah it's like that" Nod Yes

jimski - 2008-09-14 17:54

Too risky around here everyone would want it Razz

thafuzz - 2008-09-14 23:11

I'd prefer to use one of these to carry my boxes around (as I get older) Big Grin Big Grin

isolator42 - 2008-09-16 06:16

Well, I'm nearly 40, so it might look a tad strange...

When I did walk around with a b-box (not for at least 15 years), they were carried like this:

walkgirl - 2008-09-16 14:12

I never take my miniboomboxes out, somebody might
steal them Frown

I know Tim does take his boomboxes about everywhere! Cool
