we just got home from our annual new years eve beach bonfire.
dont know how the rest of the world governs bonfires on public beaches --but down here in florida --an official permit is required.
thats understandable, except its about impossible to ever get one !!
so, rather than go thru all the political red tape --and as long as the winds are not blowing on-shore --
the local fire department is kind enough to 'overlook' this permit matter --
and gives us a pass for 6 holidays nights per year --plus a few full moon parties
anyway --its beer and fun and NICE !!
the first shot is a couple night fishing at the surf -
the rest are the bonfire at 11PM --before the big crowd arrives :
Nothing beats a nice BIG bonfire...throw in pallets, chairs, tables...ANYTHING that burns

Happy New Year Ira! Do you ever take any of your boxes to the beach? Or is that a big no no. I would think you would be quit the center of attention with some of those you have.
anything EXCEPT plywood, painted wood or the neighbors palm trees
do you need permits up there in canada?
hi eric --happy new year to you --
learned the hard way to never take a classic , irreplaceable box onto the sand and close to the surf--
sand and salt is brutal torture to tape decks and all the switches, connections, etc
the only good, loud box to be relaxed about is a kaboom
as they can be replaced, anytime

ira you need to come on tour with me. i am sure you would enjoy the experience.
like when ??
agreed !!
also --last night- i forgot the tripod --
and unless some photo/hip member says otherwise --
even the BEST cameras need a tripod for no-flash night shots -right ??????????/
Ira,
Fireside shooting can definitely be challenging and, as Freddie so tactfully pointed out, it really does really help to know what you are doing. Tripod is not always necessary, especially if your subjects are moving around.
Ideally, you should be using a camera that has decent high-ISO performance, a relatively fast lens and the ability to shoot manually.
What camera (make/model) were you using?
its a 1995 sony #900 digital -- sent you a PM - thanks
btw --hope you are correct about the tripod advice --because they take away from the informality of party pictures.
Ira, I would recommend Nikon D40 for your night-time pictures - they are not expensive and are pretty good
I'll even trade you mine - for you Bolt box
Your camera is 14 years old.... Things have come a LOOOOONG way since then.
That is 95% of the reason for your results. I'll check PM...

hey vladi...i already called dibs on Ira's bolt box...and besides...Ira would most likely want your Nikon D40 PLUS $737.42 PLUS shipping and handling fees for what may have been your potential "trade"
